Re: The athletics/running thread
I could probably swim a mile now but I'm slow. Did 600m this morning since it's my first for ages. I didn't realise your swimming had been that limited, that's impressive progression. I'm going to sack off the running club and join a tri club I think. Need some proper technical advice because I'm very inefficient.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Good stuff Gary, off for a swim now myself. Need to do it regularly though cos I'm bloody rubbish!
There's no escaping it. In the 3 years or so since I took swim coaching sessions I have not gotten much faster. However I can now swim over 2 miles whereas before I could swim 2 lengths. If you can be efficient in your swim you can catch someone on the run because you're fast.
Might need a bike as well!

Other than for lots and lots of walking up and down the hills of Cumbria and the parks of London I've done nowt for the past 10 days. This evening I reacquaint myself with SML (possibly twice). Bring it!

Seriously, I'd not get as far as South Drive these days, but when I was running, I did take on what I think is the worst hill in the area
Past Breightmet Golf Club and up towards the sky
3/4s was my best effort
Try it.....for a laugh

One of my brothers lives at the top of that hill and his Mrs is a nurse. They may be called upon.

Oh shit, just realised, I meant Harwood Golf Club
From mine, round by the Red Bridge, Arthur Lane, Baci and home used to be my 5k though it was just over 4, it counted!

Cheers for the route idea, Caps. Did it from mine and chucked a lap of Ashdene on at the end which took it up to 7.3K. That hill up by BGC - Oh my.CAPSLOCK wrote:Oh shit, just realised, I meant Harwood Golf Club

Re: The athletics/running thread
Results from my Aquathlon, on Tuesday, were published last night.
Happy to report a new PB (38.55) but only came 6th in my age group out of 38.
Need to ramp up now for GNR a week on Sunday.

Only? That's a great result isn't it? Well done. You got a time in mind for Sunday?Gary the Enfield wrote:Results from my Aquathlon, on Tuesday, were published last night.

The races were scored as best 4 of 5
Of those 38 only 9 did 4 or more races. So in reality I was 6th of 9.
Time for GNR? I don't want to push myself as I haven't raced a 1/2 marathon since last year. I would love to go sub 1:45 but sub 1:50 is more likely. I did 1:37 there 2 years ago.

I'm glad it's not just me that's noticed that about Ashdene. It's flat down the back of Morri's, yet a crescent that takes you off and brings you back onto the same stretch further back is uphill.
Good luck with everything in getting back into it.
Having done the BGC hill last night my new goal is 7 Stars up to Affetside. Someday.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Honestly, do the Harwood GC hill
It just keeps going and going and increasing in gradient
When you try, let us all know
Itll be proper funny

Re: The athletics/running thread
Thought I'd prove all the health freaks on here, those with the temerity to criticise LeverEnd and I's technique of turning up whilst still half cut, wrong this week by carrying out a little comparison exercise.
So, nae booze all week - bugger of a 7.5K hilly training run in midweek. Healthy nosebag all week. Berries, banana and yogurt with only water to drink at 6:30 this morning. Early to the track for three warm-up laps plus stretching exercises.
Result: New PB
