Spicy sausage and red lentil hot pot in the slow cooker. By God the house smelt beautiful when I walked in

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Got ambushed I'm Funchal fruit market today by a very enthusiastic fruit stallholder! Tasted nearly all of his stock. Escaped with this assortment of passion fruits - lemon, lime, pineapple, couple of others I don't recall due to a very beery lunch! And the green knobbly bendy one is the fruit from what we know as the Swiss cheese plant - tastes like a cross between pineapple and banana... These passion fruit smell utterly divine and they simply burst with flavour! (Even if I a. Now paying off a small fruit mortgage!)

Actually G&T for the lemon and porn-star martini for the passion fruit.
.after that the pineapple won't be a problem.

Almost all the tomatoes from the garden now gone. But 4lbs of them went into a tomato and blue cheese soup yesterday and a garlicky pasta sauce. Both delicious.
Was driving to Manchester so no wine to go with either. But would have chosen a light-medium red with either/both.

Visited Wahaca again for lunch today and went for this steak. Fantastic flavours in every aspect of the meal. Very reasonable prices too. Sampled the sil's grilled chicken and mil's grilled haddock. Both were amazing!clapton is god wrote:^ No, it was on the menu as 'British steak done the Mexican way' and was only available as medium rare but with all the bits of green rice etc that you mention. Really tasty!

In the middle of probably 5 very wet, very windy, not especially cold days. There is nothing more for it than a 6 hour slow cooked Oxtail Stew, with dumplings and jacket potato.
With it a cheeky ... nay, downright impudent, possibly outright rude... Syrah. Over expensive given the cost of the food but f'kit.
Whatever is left over will be used as the filling of a suet pudding tomorrow.
There ARE advantages to short days and poor weather.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
ate quite a few of these in Funchal - Espada (or Scabbard Fish) - a Madeiran speciality - traditionally served with fried (locally grown) banana... I'm not normally a big fan of fruit with my dinner - but in this case - yum!!
(they are tastier than they look!)
