OK then - you all took turns to bang the female teacher on the conveyor belt, and that's the origin of the term 'coal scuttle'.TANGODANCER wrote:"A mine is a hole in the ground with a crook at the top and a fool at the bottom!"....Mark Twain?
Once went down Agecroft Colliery mine. Our female teacher was married to some sort of supervisor there. Right up to the coal face, part way lying flat on a conveyor belt. We all went in full of bravado, and came out never wanting to go back in there ever again. Read into that what you will....

Nice woman, but somewhat resembling a jovial beer keg. She didn't go anyway, it was a bloody big male sports teacher who played football for Bolton Wiresdale. Wouldn't want to scuttle with him on or off a conveyor belt.Bruce Rioja wrote:OK then - you all took turns to bang the female teacher on the conveyor belt, and that's the origin of the term 'coal scuttle'.TANGODANCER wrote:"A mine is a hole in the ground with a crook at the top and a fool at the bottom!"....Mark Twain?

I was surprised at this, mainly because I thought he died the other week. Then I remembered that, that was the bloke on the drums. Not my cup of tea but a character no doubt. RIP

And now news of Specials drummer John Bradbury. My abiding memory of The Specials was that at school we'd been studying Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Purcell and were all thoroughly fecked off with it, so our Music Teacher invited us to bring our own records in, and for the next few weeks we worked on Too Much, Too Young.

Friends, colleagues and family dropping like flies. I've got four funerals to go to this week coming now. At least my uncle (by marriage) is Irish, so that one will be a good old fashioned wake. Slainte.

Ed 'stewpot' Stuart. When I saw his pic on sky news I just presumed he'd been arrested for historical sex abuse charges Sorry Ed

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: This weeks RIP's........
I never saw Crackerjack. But, about fifteen years ago in Glasgow (I think it was the Drum and Monkey, but not exactly sure) this fellow walked into the bar and half the clientele shouted out "Crackerjack". I asked one of the businessmen we were out having a liquid lunch with what was going on, and he said Stoopat's just walked in. His life must have been misery if that happened everywhere he went.
