Re: The Politics Thread

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, oh Principessa Nella tua fredda stanza Guardi le stelle che tremano D'amore e di speranza Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me Il nome mio nessun saprà No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò Quando la luce splenderà Ed il mio bacio scioglierà Il silenzio che ti fa mia (ll ...

Re: The Politics Thread

You sound like a toddler. "They won't let democracy win, wah". "Civility is actually the overcoming of the will to power, the natural desire to dominate others, not a mask for covering over that natural political attitude." Words of wisdom from Ann Hartle professor of philosophy at Emory University...

Re: The Politics Thread

The answer is...

Callaghan is the odd one out as he is the only one whose first name isn't James.

Re: The next manager

Depends where we are money wise. If there is any attempt to put the money in to try to stay up comfortably and try to get up next year then I'd be worried given his lack of experience.

If the cupboard is bare and we're promoting all the kids I guess it makes sense.

Nope. I'll give you that the odd one out is Callaghan, and that Paul McCartney would also fit the category (other than not being a Labour leader)...

Re: The Politics Thread

Enjoyed this quiz question I saw on Twitter:

Of Keir Hardie, Ramsay MacDonald, Harold Wilson, James Callaghan and Gordon Brown, which Labour leader is the odd one out, and why?*

*"Comedy" answers get -10 points.

Re: What are you watching tonight?

Summat else for you to watch - Last Breath. It's on Netflix amongst other stuff. It's one of these documentary films and tells the tale, and includes lots of actual footage, of a guy called Chris Lemons, a deep sea diver working on a routine oil well maintenance job when things go horribly wrong. S...

Re: Tonight's Football

Not a strong day for the ladies. One 13-0 and another game paused because it rained... I wish it had been bigger when I was younger as I reckon I'd have got into it but all I find interesting now is the Wanderers or the ludicrous levels at the top of the men's game. Good luck to them though. Got a c...

Glad to see the Rule of Law getting a strong defence and look forward to more of the same next time it's under threat. So, are Gove, Stewart, Johnson, et al. guilty, or innocent? Same. Guilty but I couldn't care less. Of the reasons Boris Johnson is unsuitable to be PM, that he had a joint back in ...

Aye I think so too. IIRC there is space for another 4 rows at the front in case we ever need to expand to 35,000!

Absolute shambles. A fraud in s lucky waistcoat is still a fraud. John Stones woeful tonight. Cannot make such basic errors and hide behind "doing the right thing". Nonsense.

Finished Caitlin Moran's How to Build a Girl over the weekend. Only the second book to ever make me laugh out loud throughout. Capable of getting a laugh from any angle. She really is a treasure.

Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.

Wasn't there mention when Doige went back that Matthews' missus had moved job to come up here. Obviously football is a somewhat peripatetic profession, but that's probably a factor (more so down the leagues when the partner's wage is more of a factor).

Loved Enid Blyton as a kid. Couple of FF SS but mainly the collections of short stories (13 o'clock etc). Tried Jane Austen a couple of times but not for me. Brontes I keep meaning to have another go at. George Eliot though, she could write. Middlemarch one of my favourite novels. Deserves considera...

At this stage I'd be happy for any of them to stay (unless Amos is still somehow contracted). Anybody who knows how to get into the training ground would be nice at this point. We needed a clear out. We've got a clear out.

Root and Buttler let down by the rest. Roy had an absolute shocker. Moeen couldn't hit a football. Awful in the field too.

Should be a kick up the arse.

All on this partnership surely. Either goes soon and that's that. Pakistan huge favourites atm anyway.
