Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

If you left a grandchild an Olympic bronze medal you had won, would they be immensely proud and see you as the third best in the world, or think if only you'd tried a bit harder you could have won gold. Sadly, too many think the latter these days. This reflects in seeing Ian Evatt as getting praise...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

The more touches and passes we take in and around their box the less likely we are to score. The more quickly we shoot or get delivery into the box the more likely we are to score. I think statistically the opposite is true. The teams who sling the ball in from wide areas score less goals, than the...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Has that sort of feel aye. We have a better team than the other play off sides but it’s down to the players and manager to lift the mentality, raise the work rate, stop feeling sorry for themselves and realise that anything you win in football is hard. No side will roll over. There is far too much ...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Well I for one - as the eternal optimist - reckon we're going up in 2nd. derby are going to lose and draw one, we're going to win both our games. remember, you heard it here first, and you're all welcome by the way!! I think we'll go into the Peterborough match with Derby guaranteed 2nd and we win ...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Agreed on Charles - am hoping what we saw Tuesday was a reflection of him not being sharp, and the way to sort that is a start on Saturday. We’ve seen that in Evatt sides it can take players weeks to get up to speed. I’m not sure we will see a fully fit and firing Charles this season again. It’s wh...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

I think in isolation Evatts comments look very defeatist. You play on till it’s mathematically impossible. But I think he’s reflecting on Santos, Sheehan and Jones and probably weighing up that he may need to protect them somewhat across the next two games. If they were fully fit it’s a different qu...

Cameron Jerome interview. Says it how it is. “But ultimately you have to look at yourselves sometimes. We have been in the position so many times where other teams haven’t done what they needed to do but we haven’t done the business either. “It is how you are over a 46-game season and if we fall sho...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Also, above and beyond any systems or otherwise we absolutely have to stop getting done over and over by the same cut back set piece! Yeah but that should be easy to sort. The other two goals we conceded in the last two games where we showed an unbelievable amount of softness and lack of defensive ...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

See my fear with Oxford is we would assume we would coast the home leg, and that usually spells trouble. Fundamentally we are finishing third or fourth and really should beat anyone we play. Blackpool wouldn’t want to play, given our record of bottling local derbies. Yeah Oxford I had the same thou...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

So we can’t get Peterborough over two legs in the play offs. Which is good as they trouble me. Obviously that potentially means they will be the opponents in the final but cross that bridge if we get there. So it’s one of Barnsley, Lincoln, Oxford and Blackpool. Blackpool an outside shot. Who would ...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Knew he'd be back when the shit hit the fan  I did consider waiting till we won the play offs and then you know it would be glorious. I genuinely hope we do. I just find what we’ve built since coming up to league one is that horrible and slightly arrogant ‘we play the right way’ type of club a...

I noticed the lurking yesterday. Actually pleased to read that post.

Almost like the missing peice is back.

COYWM!!!
On my phone at the ground didn’t realise I was signed in on there - wanted to wait to post till I had calmed down from the frustration of the events last night.

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.

Since January we’ve won something like 9 in 22. Currently we are on 2 wins out of the last 6. This is a long old spell. It’s not like a bad run you can brush away. It’s not getting any better either. And the warning signs were there long long before this run too. We all looked at the fixture list an...

I feel sorry for Evatt. He’s clearly got to the point where he doesn’t know how to take us forward or what we are missing. You could tell in the comments post derby but there are other games too. It is as I’ve said before that intangible set of qualities that get you over the line in big games that ...

Ruh-roh.

Thats problematic. A sizeable increase in losses against a 40% increase in revenue.

Been here before….alarm bells and all that.

Re: The Politics Thread

I just wrote out a longish reply, then realised the futility of bothering. We'll never live in a world where enough is enough. Greed is an incurable disease. "What doth it profit a man if he gains the whole world and suffers the loss of his soul?" Jesus asked. Well, I guess we'll know one day unles...

Re: The Politics Thread

Privatisation. What a failure it's generally been. Like most of the policies prevalent in the 1980's. Sell "the people" something they owned in the first place, on the basis that private business would just throw money at it, because they're philanthropic. Watch as the corporates take divvies each ...

I don’t think there is any conspiracy. It’s just a manager who knows he’s under a lot of pressure to deliver and key players who aren’t yet fit. Maybe have had setbacks in their recovery. I really have believed for a long time that our sports science and rehab etc leaves an awful lot to be desired....

Re: What's Ste Evan's Age? 61, I think. Stevenage away. 29/03/2024 - 3pm

Another big pressure game in the run in. We’ve got to win one of these surely? Even statistical odds would say even absolute trash sides would win some of these. Do you recall us beating Oxford 5-0? Oxford are rubbish and it was in front of a small home crowd and a tiny away following. We all know ...
