Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

It'll probably get worse. Time is the enemy. Everything we built in our era is either falling down or in need of expensive maintenance and the very thought of it has the investors running to get their money out; that's why so many M and S and co etc type shops are empty. Bolton is a shining example...

Re: Our formation

That shows in microcosm, Sheehan's disappearance. Every time (in the clip). Their 9 has done a very good job, but Sheehan looking to adapt to it doesn't really happen. Edit: It would also be a brave man, to suggest Santos should have been doing "something brave" with it as Evatt said in post-match,...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I’m not sure what message people expect. There are two scenarios. 1) Nothing has yet been decided. Maybe Sharon and the board are considering budgets Evatt considering his future. Nothing to say yet. 2) Everything is carrying on as normal. Nothing to say. Season tickets are sold. There is no point i...

Mate, you can wish for people like Ainsworth all you like. If we removed Evatt to bring him in tomorrow, I'd be getting a refund on my season ticket. It's not just a step backwards. It's Marty f'in McFly reversing his DeLorean into the Hanging Gardens of Babylon There's a reason his teams follow up...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

Don't compare Gareth Ainsworth and Sam Allardyce Allardyce evolved here. He came in proper long ball, long throw, thought Johansen was too small…he changed over time here and became rounded. Didn’t take that long either it was less than two full seasons till he was doing everything to sign Youri an...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Darrell Clarke has been appointed Barnsley head ‘coatch’ their spelling not mine.

I actually think that’s a good appointment. I’d have had him here.

Re: Our formation

Ah yes the mythical ‘number 10’ that doesn’t exist. I don’t like that option because either they are a technical clever type that is bullied out of games or they are a Nolan type who scores a lot of goals but probably don’t help your shape or build up too much. Finding one that does both at this lev...

Re: Our formation

^^Yeah this. Too much focus on recovery. And the way we play a slight dip in our recovery or an individual error and it’s exposed as you say. Too many instances where a CB had to decide whether to challenge or drop and if they pick the wrong one in the instance there simply isn’t the cover back to p...

Re: Our formation

What we try and do I think is genuinely too much for what we have available. Make it simpler compact the team a bit and be more solid - we have threats we will score goals but we don’t need to constantly be defending so high and thinking we need defenders to both get their defensive job right and m...

Re: Our formation

Yeah brilliant thread worthy. I don’t think this is purely the system. As in 352 vs 433 or whatever. Those are just numbers. It’s the system combined with how we play. Sheffield United under Wilder sort of did the 352 thing best for a while with wide centre halves stepping out and under lapping the ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Rotherham are serious about this. Byers apparently on his way too. And a few others. Going to be a good side with a manager who will get them fighting.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

By the relegation Gartside was already in full on disaster mitigation mode. He was trying to persuade Eddie not to turn the taps off and already knew it was a trickle at best. It was already too late. Coyle should have gone in the November the season before. Not making that decision was fateful. I ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

That’s not what happened with Coyle but ok. Literally worked there at the time and was directly involved, but okay. By the relegation Gartside was already in full on disaster mitigation mode. Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

The world doesn’t work like ‘oh we’ve either got to fully commit to him or not’ It's the only way football works. Coyle is a prime example of just that issue. We kept him on through a summer to "see how it went" and could have fixed a lot of issues by sacking him. When we did sack him, after not gi...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Lets try this slightly differently. :-) I think (whatever the view of the respective strengths of the Division next season), that anything below play-offs would certainly be disaster - I suspect you agree. I could absolutely see a scenario where we are at least broadly in touch all year and don't q...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

The idea you stick with Evatt for a whole season unless it’s ‘disastrous’ doesn’t make sense. Sunderland sacked Johnson, think they were third and went up. Buckingham came in December and went up. There are loads of examples of changing managers mid way through. Evatt imo should be gone by now. But...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Worth saying that JDB is a player I really liked on a number of levels. He added loads when he first arrived and bar injuries I think would have continued to do so. He just was unlucky with injuries.

One of the good guys. And will be missed I think.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

We conceded very few goals the season before but we had Bradley who defensively is premier league level, when he didn’t play Jones would play there who is a more defensive option, often Iredale on the left till he got injured another sort of defensive type. We had a more physical shield for the back...
