Re: The Olympics

No-one said it was. Obviously they don't rock up every four years and think how do I do this again. But much like athletics it's a once every four years peak. It's not like tennis or golf where it's a nice addition you might try to go along and win but not the big thing.

Re: The Olympics

Mental health wise, despite that strange rant earlier, we're only talking about Biles in terms of a once every four years Olympics (the likes of Osaka and Ben Stokes have been taking a break from sports that never really stop and don't have that scarcity). And Simone Biles competes in a sport where,...

Re: The Olympics

Anybody else got mixed feelings about Dina Asher Smith failing in the 100 metres and then pulling out of the 200 as well because she was a big hope of a medal but as she’d insisted that, despite warnings from the IOC not to, at the medal ceremony she’d be taking the knee on the podium? Maybe that a...

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

Well I'm not sure that's a valid comparison Monty! The "ball in play" stats mean exactly that. They don't include gearing up for throw-ins or corners etc. By that metric there must be far less actual play in any baseball game. From the pitchers arm to the backstop, or behind the foul line a lot of t...

Re: Season Predictions

That's a fair point too. I thought Isgrove was broadly a bit shit in a "but he's good value because he works hard" kind of way, but he was then very good in the last 5 games or so so it's possible he was still finding his feet for a long time. His "numbers" have never been great through his career b...

Re: Season Predictions

I'm positive and confident. Firstly, although you get what you deserve over 46 games and Cheltenham were rightfully champions, in terms of expectations for the new season we are the ones coming up the position you'd be of winning the league at a canter. A full half-season of form that had us on trac...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.

I don't really disagree I just don't think he's at the age yet where he "needs" games, but the work-experience loan is a useful weapon in that you don't get stuck with the Foden/Sancho comparison - is it better to go and play, or train with higher quality players. You can do both! Get him to Chorley...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.

Sully Kaikai got himself a club yet? Aye, he's signed for Wanderers. Wycombe Wanderers. I thought he might have landed a bigger gig but I suppose as a relegated side, they've a realistic chance of being one of the front runners this season. They also put up a decent fight against relegation - after...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.

Completely agree with you both on Gordon. He's got his head down and improved (and full back is easier than wing back where you have to be exceptional. Only really Kioso excelled there last year and he was far too good for L2). Looks solid backup. As you say, if Declan is fit he plays. Gordon looks ...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.

Senior getting good words too. He's obviously going to start down the pecking order but with Baps' age and Aimston's injury record there might be a chance there. Maybe keep him around for the first half of the season, give him minutes in the JPT and then look at a loan in Jan.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

9 innings isn't it? "Bottom of the ninth" whatever that means. And add in their propensity for ad breaks and timeouts.

My brother went at the Olympic stadium a couple of years ago and said it went on forever.

That super bowl nonsense goes on for hours and hours too I think.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.

I agree. I think he's talking about not spending all pre-season doing what you're going to do in the league so that they can see it and plan for it. I don't think that neccessarily means "elaborate" though I do think we'll see another mix of short and crossed corners. I don't quite agree with BWFCi,...

Re: Highlight of Season

Absolutely. In the second half of the season we scored 32 and conceded 13 (that's the Tranmere horror show and then The Run).

Over a whole season 64 goals scored would've been 5th best, but 26 conceded would've been by absolutely miles the best defensive record in the league.

Ryan Reynolds, Hollywood actor, and Rob McElhenney, creator of and actor in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia (my all time #1 favourite sitcom).

I suspect they're chucking money at it. Potentially great gig for Parky.
