Re: Tonight's Football

Phil Foden is a super, special player. Has to start for England. You'd hope so, wouldn't you? Because he's also brilliantly flexible positionally, which would allow for in-game tweaks, let aloine in-tournament. I'm not Southgate (clearly) but I can't see how he leaves him out now, especially in a 4...

Re: To be continued. Home to Cheltenham, Tues Jan 23rd , 7-45.

Not a great game but a gritty performance. Certainly not one for the purists but three points all the same. I’m not sure if the conditions really came across on the stream but the wind was horrendous tonight. Just watching crisp packets swirling around the pitch and shirts being blown around the pla...

Re: Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Bare Bones....

I wasn't quite sure where to post this so as Gethin Jones has left us short of defenders, I thought I would put it here. Anyway, Gethin played 78 minutes of a warm up match for the AFC Asia Cup for Australia v Bahrain. The Aussies won 2-0. What did catch my eye was a certain J Iredale being on the s...

Re: Contract expiry

Morley had extended his contract until June 2027. A bit of a surprise decision. He hasn’t been great this season but was probably our best midfielder against Lincoln. He seems to have 5 or 6 good games then goes off the boil.

Re: Who opened the door? My money is on Janus! 2024 January transfer thread.

Just been looking at Guinea Bissau, their African Cup of Nations record and upcoming fixtures. They have only qualified for three tournaments - 2017, 2019 and 2021. They have yet to win a game and in each tournament managed just one draw out of their three games (they have failed to even score in th...

Dion Charles scored tonight for Northern Ireland. Six minutes later he is substituted due to injury. Apparently he got injured making a sliding tackle. Just hope it is nothing serious.

Forrester did well when he came on. Evatt has to play him instead of Iredale who was dreadful as he was against Wigan. For me, he should never play in the back three again. Iredale is a traditional left back and nothing else.

Re: Match Thread: Pasties and Pies - A Tasty affair! Bolton v Wigan (H) - Saturday 19th Aug / 12.30

We'll shit 'em. Sounds like they have an "energetic midfield" so need to be about it, early! :-) One of Wigan’s midfield was helped off the pitch on Tuesday after injuring his shoulder. Thelo Aasgaard (never heard of him) played 39 league games in the Championship and has started all the league gam...

Re: Pre-season 2023-24

Trafford and Bradley who? We didn’t miss either of them tonight. I like the look of Baxter. He made 4 or 5 quality saves tonight backed by solid defenders. Santos in particular was excellent. Iredale and Jones steady defensively besides him and added more going forward. What I like with the seven in...

Re: The Forest Green Green Grass of Home? FGR, (H) 24/01/23 7.45pm

My take on Kachunga last night, he was stupid and we were lucky not to drop points. I personally thought he worked hard throughout but he certainly doesn’t do it at the same intensity as Charles or Dempsey. That doesn’t mean he is slacking off or not trying (in my opinion). With regards the cheering...

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window

Just having a quick scan around for potentials and wondering about that old Danny Ward link. Twas said he was happy to see out his contract but with Huddersfield signing two more strikers (as I noted re Tyreece Simpson) you wonder if he'd fancy the challenge. If we're waiting on his rehab then that...

Taking my lad to his first away game. He’s 14 and very excited.

Please don’t let us concede an early goal for both our sake’s.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window

According to The 72 website, Alan Nixon has us linked with striker Danny Ward from Huddersfield. This is the same Danny Ward we had as a youngster before selling him on for around £1m back in 2011. He is not a prolific goalscorer but played most of his career in the Championship. A hard working forw...

Re: Wycombe to bury you, not praise you. Wycombe (h) Sat 6 Aug @3pm.

That said, I was a little surprised to see Baka get the nod, rather than JDB... My son and I were discussing this during the game (he is a Dad Bod fan). I think a factor could have been Baka’s defensive presence for Wycombe’s corners and free kicks. Dad Bod is good in the air but Baka is stronger a...

Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!

I have practically no time for Hill as a person, I wouldn't have ever appointed him, and I was relieved when he was let go. Despite that, I have a fair degree of sympathy with the idea he was hard done to during his spell here. I completely agree with you. The initial job Hill did to sign all those...

Re: Making HMS YouKnowWhat ship-shape: Winter 20/21 transfer thread

See, I think we're all in agreement that there's no ready-made replacement for Tutte amongst our midfielders - that the options are basically incapable of winning the ball in the middle of the pitch. As such, I think if I was Mr Evatt I'd be spending this week s eeing who out of the defensive optio...

Re: Crellin vs Rachubka

Who'd taken Aiden Davidson or Kevin Poole right now? Was it 93/94 when Aidan Davison played for most of the season? Not that I've any inclination to do this, but my mate reckons that if you watch the video back, you'll see that Davison is at fault in some way for every goal he let in. Sounds a bit ...
