Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
If we go up and Jones Santos Toal are our starting Centrebacks, we will come right back down. One out of the 3 plus 2 better quality CBs as starters are needed for the Championship.

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm
Nothing wrong with having a "bad gut feel". Its a good thing. Not taking anything for granted. Its the expectation that kills. Overconfidence is a killer. As far as I am concerned the match can go either way. If we play with the same determination as in the semi-finals, I believe we will win. If we ...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs TBC. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm
Never expected to be facing Oxford in the final but feeling a lot better about this than preparing to face Posh. Oxford will feel they have exceeded expectations to get there and will be more relaxed. We are feeling disappointed for not getting up automatically, and will be tense if its 0-0 after 60...

Re: Up Winter Hill Bah't hat. Home to Barnsley, Tues 7th May 8-0 clock
We are in the final and I am happy. We fought hard against a really good team who threw everything and the kitchen sink at us, refusing to give up. We don't normally survive these types of games, and yes, we lost, but we fought hard to get to Wembley and made it. We lost the plot in the 2nd half as ...

Re: No nonsense, Ronseal type of deal. Barnsley Away. 3rd May 2024 19.30pm
Lovely win. Advantage Bolton. Interesting tactics in the first half. No playing out from the back as we knew Barnsley would come out with a 4 man press. Good job Evatt and scouts as we countered by hitting it long, keeping their backline busy, their weak point. Then we hit them with Evats "beautiful...

Re: No nonsense, Ronseal type of deal. Barnsley Away. 3rd May 2024 19.30pm
We play our own brand. Attack them from the off. We however need to manage well the 30-45 mins period when we tire by consolidating and not shying away from tackles. We also need to observe their change of tactics in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half and and adjust quickly from the bench if necessar...

Re: No nonsense, Ronseal type of deal. Barnsley Away. 3rd May 2024 19.30pm
Keep thinking negative thoughts and talking about the past is non-productive. Clean sheet, fresh start and Barnsley are just another team in our league. None of the past matters, only the future. Lately, I read of a man who said, "Our best defence is offence. No matter how well you defend, unless y...

Re: No nonsense, Ronseal type of deal. Barnsley Away. 3rd May 2024 19.30pm
Hypothetically, would you take a draw on Friday? We have pretty much everything in our favour going into Friday, so anything less than a win would be disappointing for me. Gun, help me to understand the "everything" we have going in our favour on Friday so that I can be as optimistic. For one not i...

Re: We Must Beat-a-borough - Away v Peterborough, Sat Apr 27th 12:30
Now is the time for the players to show that they have the fight for this. Neither Barnsley, Oxford or Peterborough are going to just hand it to us. We will have to fight for every ball and have the stomach for it. A "take no prisoner" mentality. Not seen that consistently in this team, so really ho...

Re: We Must Beat-a-borough - Away v Peterborough, Sat Apr 27th 12:30
No time to be tinkering with the side. Not much difference between Jones and Iredale to me, but Jones just edges it. When they both play, Jones on the right and Iredale on the left, our defense is all over the shop and very exposed. They make us significantly weaker playing together. Evatt prefers t...

Re: We Must Beat-a-borough - Away v Peterborough, Sat Apr 27th 12:30
My focus would be on the playoffs.. Stay with Taylor to start at CB instead of Santos Morley instead of Sheehan Dempsey for Maghoma Cameron for Collins Baxter Jones Taylor Toal JDC Dempsey Morley Thommo WIlliams Charles Cameron Yeah, I know Evatts ego will not pick a side like this, but Posh will no...

Re: The Nostradamus file....
Not being promoted is disastrous. I'd be happy (or very unhappy...) to be proved wrong, but I don't think it is disastrous at all. My prediction would be that not being promoted basically means we start next season in League 1 and try to get promoted then, whilst also trying to progress in the cups...

Re: The Nostradamus file....
Aye, had a week off, got a week off afterwards. Play the strongest team without taking any risks. If Derby are 3-0 up at half time you can always take people off then. This. A million percent. It's effing sport. Play your strongest team all the time and try to win every game you play, or just don't...

Re: The Nostradamus file....
Will Posh show their hand ? I doubt they will be playing their strongest and maybe instructions will be to get at Collins. Sheehan. Maghoma and Santos (if he plays) and soften them up (or injure them) for the play-offs. Also, if we play our strongest, they will assess.. ok, Bolton has put their best...

Re: Breaking pots... Home v Port Vale Sat 20th Apr. 3-0'Clock.
I've swung from optimistic about the playoffs to deeply pessimistic, I just don't think we can defend well enough and we're struggling to score from the millions of chances we make. It feels like there is an easy formula to play against us, put 10 behind the ball and try hit us on the break or from...

Re: Breaking pots... Home v Port Vale Sat 20th Apr. 3-0'Clock.
Feel pleased for Cameron and his goal. A good Pro. Its also nice when we score from a header. All season our wingbacks play in crosses on the floor to our forwards/midfielders which 90% of the time in my estimation are cleared. I guess the reason is that even although we have tall players such as Ad...

Re: Breaking pots... Home v Port Vale Sat 20th Apr. 3-0'Clock.
I am quite surprised how optimistic we are. Bolton really has some great fans. For me, we focus now on the playoffs because thats what it will be. Some minutes now for those coming in, some psychological work to win those 3 playoff games, get the niggles sorted out for our key players, and have a se...

Re: Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Bare Bones....
We are already in trouble... and its not the forwards I am concerned about. Its the defense. Toal has played RCB, then LCB, then CB in the last few games. One days its Jones in, then Iredale, then its Forrester. We are not settled and I fear the worse if we dont have a settled central defense in the...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.
We seemed too anxious, looking quickly to shoot at every opportunity without patience and played Shrews game, especially in the first half. Defensively, without our captain we looked very vulnerable. A good side would have cut this defense open today. Looked better in the second half with Maghoma th...

Re: Re: Twixt Cups and Lips. Home to Shrewbury Town, Tuesday Apr 16th 7-45.
We take care of our business is all I ask. Every game will take a massive effort. I have been around the block too long to believe we "should" win 3-0 or whatever... The ball is round and games unpredictable. You can dominate and lose. That's why we love the game. Full of surprises. All I ask is tha...
