Re: The Politics Thread
Great to hear from you Monty. Politics are crazy the world over. ae:) True, but especially so in our great neighbour to the South, where crazy seems an understatement. Spent a lot of time lately, like you Jim, looking after the wife. She had a new knee in August, an eye operation in October, a seco...

I didn't realize it was an early start. It is actually quite relaxing to sign in and find we won. Makes a change.

Re: The Olympic Games 2024
Thanks Tango, all is fine. The wife gets her new knee on the 29th and will hopefully become a bit more mobile. She got her new replacement artificial hip in January and it has not dislocated like the other one used to do. I was very surprised that I liked breaking which I had no intention of watchin...

Re: The Olympic Games 2024
My wife made me watch breaking. As it happened I quite enjoyed it. Everyone seemed to be have a great time, win or lose. A lot of strength and athleticism required. Oh well, it won't be there next time in LA.

Re: The Politics Thread
If you're around Monty, hope all is as best as you can be . God Bless. Thanks, Tango. All is as well as can be expected for my wife and I'm in good nick for an old guy. This thread referencing the Good Old Days was making me think that you and I are about the only who saw the welfare state come in ...

And we haven't won the FA Cup since we abandoned the 2-3-5 formation  [/quote] Ah, but back then we had Eddie Hopkinson in nets, Roy "Chopper" Hartle at right back and Tommy Banks at left, while up front we had Nat loftnouse, Doug Holden and Ray Parry. All but the Chopper were England inte...

Been a long while since an AoC has presided over a head of state funeral and crowned a new monarch.. I watched the last coronation in 1953 and the Bolton-Blackpool Cup Final. Not sure for which event we bought our first tv. So I missed the 1952 funeral. Slacker! Hope all well with you and the missu...

Best wishes to Mrs Monty, Monty. Hope all goes well with the op. Operation (which turned out to be a total replacement of the artificial hip) went well and she was actually released the following day (Saturday night). Currently the physio is here and the nurse expected this pm. So all good so far.

Awful news. Condolences to the family, and those who fought to save his life in the ground. Hopefully the club will mark their efforts in an appropriate way. Ditto to that. What a tragedy for his family. I'm sure all our prayers are for them at this sad time. May God rest his soul. ae:) The club sa...

Re: General Chit Chat
Thanks. I suspect things are bound to improve. I didn't mention it but last month she found her brother has stage 4 lung cancer. Poor chap hadn't smoked for forty years. She of course cannot travel (to Winnipeg) to see him yet and so is depressed about most things. As I say, everything will improve ...

Re: General Chit Chat
It was quiet here. The wife dislocated her articificial hip in October and again November. It is completely unstable. So she is immobile in a brace until an operation scheduled for January 19. Stayed home and was in bed by 10.00 pm. 2023 was a bad year for her (and by extension me who got stuck doin...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I would think it might be worth consulting a lawyer. Limiting a ten-year warranty to just bricks sound very odd. "Oh, the bricks were fine, ti was just the mortar which disinter=grated when your hous collapsed". What has Prufrock to say? What they mean is new build warranties cover the structure of...

Re: Merry Christmas
Seasons greetings and a Happy New Year to everyone from the land of snow and ice. However, for the first time in many years, we had a green Christmas and still raining today. Bit like Bolton really. We managed a tornado in Tameside, Monty. All the best, SIr. Still no snow. It appears to have moved ...

First class stamp £1-25. (I ran a mailroom when they were thirty pence). When we were kids they were three old pence. T.V Licences £1-59 with a proposed 15 pence rise imminent.(These we supposed to be free to old-age pensioners, huh, what a hope. Britain has officially lost the plot. Police...
