Re: The athletics/running thread

Just back from a late night swim today. Swam 45 lengths so well over 1k and it only registered about 100 ‘steps’ on my fitbit. Pool eerily quiet and a one way system in the changing rooms in place which meant sharing the men’s showers with them afterwards which felt a bit weird. Drew the line...

Re: FA Cup First Round Draw

IIRC Cygan was actually surprisingly good for about half a season (then dreck for a long time), but Senderos always made me imagine the Alpine village pining for its lost idiot... Senderos and Cygan looked like Pele compared to Stepanovs and Squillaci. We’ve had some bad centre half’s over the year...

Re: FA Cup First Round Draw

On a completely unrelated note I hadn’t realised just how much Ian Evatt looks like Skhodran Mustafi til the cup draw. Can he come and play in our defence? He’d probably be an improvement. Good luck against Crewe! Had to look Skhodran Mustafi up, but yes, an absolute ringer  . Can yer man mo...

Re: Tonight's Football

Bloody hate Jamie Vardy 🤬 He's great! He's also another in a long line of players who Arsenal could have had if they hadn't been penny pinching at the time. Was it £20m Wenger wouldn't pay for him? Ozil has had that in wages this last year! I actually think it wasn’t wages that was the issue. He sh...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....

Ha! On locking down Exeter - can I ask how that would work in practice - given we know rates are high in and around the city compared to the rest of the county - how wide do you draw that circle? Do you stop people leaving the city - or coming in? How do you stop people who live in the boundary fro...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....

Thanks for an alternative view. Certainly sounds nice there comparatively and obviously the case numbers are lower. I guess my counter point to that is - your cases were probably lower in March when we went into lockdown and the numbers per 100,000 very much depends where arbitrary borders are draw...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....

I think the older you are, the more serious people take it. (I have no evidence for this wild assertion). I think we're in a place now where the guidance "following the science" has now got more confused and is also driven by a healthy dose of economics, so people are taking their own "risk" views ...

If I was that shape, I'd be delighted! :D 3 mile plod for me today with friend and dog. Still super slow. It’s a bit soul destroying. Devoured an entire chocolate orange afterwards I was so depressed about it! That's 278 calories a mile...….. Didn’t need to know that. Why can’t you be encour...

Re: The athletics/running thread

An 85 year old has just done the mile in 8 mins, 10.4 seconds. To do a mile, it takes me that long just defrosting the car. Saw that. From Darlington. Achieved on a diet of Woodbines and lard no doubt! There's hope for me yet! Found some video footage of you Worthy, from last time you got on the tr...

Re: The athletics/running thread

 Just saw on the BBC some Ugandan geezer ran 26:11 for a new 10k world record, and an Ethiopian woman ran 14:06 to break the 5k WR. Well I’ve just ran about 5 minutes over his 10k record for 5k. Do I get a prize? ‘Worlds slowest runner’ or something? Tbf he probably didn’t have to stop for h...

Re: The athletics/running thread

Aye, my wife broke and dislocated one of her ankles a couple of weeks ago. She's in a rehabilitation hospital at the moment learning to hop and strengthen her other leg. Although she's a bit of a lass these days I reckon she'll do at least 1.7cm by the time she gets home, CAM boot 'n all. :w...
