Re: The athletics/running thread

In the meantime, boxing saturday and sunday this weekend to get some endorphins and let out some steam. When I was around 12 years old, me and a schoolmate decided that we'd start boxing down at The Lads Club on Bark Street; beginners sessions were held on a Friday evening. Before you actually got ...

All clear to give running a go at the weekend* *max 1.5km at a speed of 7kmph. Then not again until the following weekend. Baby steps but at least some steps! How did you get on? Good thanks. More or less the same as two years ago but a little slower on the run. 2019 it was a 4 mile downhill and 2 ...

Re: The athletics/running thread

Good to get out with HG this evening. Although the hottest day of the year probably wasn’t the wisest choice on which to make my return, after a 4 week lay off. A very gentle 5k in absolutely ridiculous heat! I need a lie down now. 😴 6 months back up North and still no invitation...…. :| I didn’t t...

Re: The athletics/running thread

Had an absolute cracker of a weekend. Saturday was my first club run with Horwich Harriers and the inaugural Red Moss 5k. 2.5 loops on a course as flat as a Witches tit. Some puddles but that just made it more fun. Took it (relatively) easy and got round in 22.20 Sunday was a different beast. My fir...

Re: The athletics/running thread

Physio finally started! Many thanks for the offer GtE but found out I could get it through work via health insurance. Seem to think it's hamstring tendonitis which isn't good, neither was the given recovery time. We will see how things progress but looking likelier than not that London will be defe...

Re: School days...

Thornleigh was a bastion for some sadistic bastards. I once saw my art teacher hit a lad with the back of his hand so hard he knocked him to the floor.

I had the cane twice but no end of twisted ears (explains a lot), cuffs round the head and blackboard dusters bounced off my bonce.....

Re: The athletics/running thread

Watch out for those Pennington Pike, GtE, they're right vicious they are. :fishing: As I swam I was obviously disturbing the surface water insects and Swifts and Martins were swooping down to catch them as they rose. Fantastic sight. 😊 Didn't see any pike. And, after my experience of touching a stu...

Where’s Leigh exactly? Back at club tonight and there was a Leigh Harrier who has moved down south and was checking out the club. I said I had a few friends in running clubs up there. Nice to hear a northern accent again :) It's a fleapit of a place on the way into Wigan. No, don’t hold back Bruce,...

Jim Steinmann. Bat out of Hell was a phenomenon when it came out and as a pre-teen kick started my love of Rock Music

But now I guess I'll never find out what he wouldn't do for love. 😔

Re: The athletics/running thread

Very happy bunny after yesterday. First time in a pool since December and managed 1500 metres in 40 minutes.

Later went to the track and ran some of my best times in 12 months including a 1:29 400m

😊
