A few random thoughts Only got there live on Sunday , so lucky with the weather. but Birkdale is still the best watchers course on the Open rota. Not impressed at all with Chris Wood's astonishingly slow play - good golf but bad example even to the pro's. From my memory - Birkdale used to be a par 7...

Like Motson, his time has gone. He can be condescending at times and his upper-class attitude irks at times, but he's still forgotten more about golf than most of the Steve Ryder's and co will ever know. He knows the game, and the courses from a professional point of view. I once watched him beat A...

Ashton has suffered from injuries this season, but will much improved next year in my opinion. I doubt he'll ever reach his pre ankle break levels again, but you never know... Let us not forget, Herr Foster, that we once picked up this fat Icelandic kid after his ankle had got shot to pieces and he...

Sure, I'd like to see a Brit win - but we're all lucky to be around to witness one of the greatest sportsmen of all time do his thing, and I hope he gets it done tonight. Hmm, a bit like idolatory there mummy. He er, did have a few advantages, like never having to work the amateur ranks or do it th...

The masters does funny things to players - so never say never. But Immelman has only made 3 mistakes all week - and he got away with one (15th). Any repetition of his long game will shut out all the others. Woods is always a threat - and 6 strokes is nothing at Augusta. Casey is usually very strong ...

I have got to turn away when Jim Furik swings a golf club. Just when you think you have a mental picure, from watching the pros, to cure all your faults, along comes the weirdest looping dipping wallop in professional golf. Trouble is, he always hits what he's aiming at and is a damn good golfer......

No, not really, fatshaft. Each of those players is/was top drawer for a while. Norman was class but was unlucky or let the pressure get to him too often for my liking. Australia has had nothing like Thomson (5 British Opens, if memory serves) and Nagle - both playing at the same time - since that l...

Its hit and mis. I would say I like about 50%. It's pretty mellow and low-fi. A nice SUnday afternoon album. However, too much Plant and not enough Krauss methinks (and I'm a Zep fan). I don't buy much music these days - but I bought this after reading a couple of reviews that it was "the closest t...

We've just gone from 56% to 61% possession - doesn't square with radio tango???? It's not what the radio commentators are saying as well. "Bolton are snoozing themselves towards the last sixteen" "Madrid are looking very, very average" Just two quotes used by them whilst I've been typing this. They...
