It must just be me then, but I quite admire Sir Beetroot and think that English football will be a lesser place when he's not around. The way that he dismisses the arrogant, nonsensical blatherings of the Portugese prick and the way that he deals with pretty boy superstars are a source of absolute ...

Riquelme might have been a more likely target under Sam. Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall seing any links to fallen idols so far this summer. Sammy seems to be keeping it relatively young and EPL-based. Oh, and he's a headcase. Just like Joof and Elk £33 million of players for £12million

I wouldn't group a Riquelme or Wilhelmsson together. Riquelme is a central attacking midfielder and as I understand it Wilhelmsson is a traditional right winger. and Riquelme is world class and Wilhelmsson isn't. Somewhere in Italy or Spain, there is a row waiting to happen. and then we pounce

I too would like to see a big name come this summer, but I'd rather Sammy focus on depth than focus on one huge signing at the expense of every other position. See: Anelka, Summer 2006. I tend to agree, but we've signed 8 players this year, all squad players - and got O'Brien back from injury. We'v...

Squad size / appearances

If LSL has his way we will soon have a first team squad of 30. If I was clever enough to drop a spreadsheet into this system I would start a Prediction game Based on - how many appearances will each player make next season? After all we can only have 11 starters and 3 subs in each match. Since I can...

Although I've never been, Walsalls ground always looks like a shed. I've passed it tons of times on the motorway with the stand that 'floors-to-go' built. Just looks kak. ..and equally Kack inside. Iwas there for the cup game last year, facilites are shite, but at least you can pull right up and pa...

Well I have been Luke Donald's biggest fan ever since the Walker Cup about 7 years ago - but I don't think this will be his week - I expect him to win a US open before ours. Much as I would love to see one of ours win again, I have a sneaking feeling for Furyk. Obviously betting against Woods is ask...

Generally speaking - the more you understand a sport, the more you appreciate it. And the more you understand, the more you realise that the top level of most sports can be compelling, and the rest can be dire. Which applies just as much to football as any other game. Leaving aside Wanderers games -...

Yeah i agree. Unfortunately Sven is a very good manager and with money behind him i reckon City could find themselves challenging us and the other sides around us. I don't agree. The irony is that any club that needs 10 good players to be competitive is never going to attract 10 good players. They ...

Just spoken to David Conn. He reckons Bates might just be out by next week; if he can't play the game his way, he'll take the ball home, even if it means the club folding for lack of alternative investment. I'm impressed - I know you are a journalist - but is David Conn a mate of yours? I still thi...

Regarding Dougan I always remember a story a pal of mine told about his time in the Royal Marines. Late 1970's early 1980's he was in 45 Commando on a tour of Belfast. They were on patrol in Belfast city centre when Dougan, and a couple of his mates, came out of a hotel bar. Tail End Charlie in the...
