Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Perhaps you should talk to the BWSA before you approach the club: http://www.thebwsa.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They should be able to give you more details about the ongoing discussions with the club. Thanks for that link. I think that's a good idea. As an aside, I've jus...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Yes we do and yes we will. Are you aware of the many attempts that have been made to get this project off the ground in the past? Every single one of them has been an initiative by the supporters. Who do you think paid for the statues of Tom Finney at Preston? Stan Mortensen at Blackpool? The club ...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I think you're missing the point to be honest. If you show them something that doesn't quite look like Nat what makes you think they're going to give you another crack at it? As someone else has also pointed out, his face needs to be thinner and you had his hair right in the first model. I also thi...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I've spent just a little more time on the maquette today and put a lot more effort into taking a decent photograph to capture the highlights and shadows. I hope you all agree that the resemblance is now pretty damned close, especially bearing in mind the scale and that it's made in plasticine. http:...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

So, did you do the Dibnah one? If you mean the statue in Oxford Street, I most certainly did NOT! I'd love to make a replacement of it though and I'd do the work for FREE! I did the bust of Fred which is in Bolton Museum see here: http://www.freddibnah.co.uk/fred-bronze-bust-for-bolton-museum.htm

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

If the club had approached you then you might have a point. But if you're going to pitch to them for a statue which could cost over £100,000 to produce, then they're probably going to want to know exactly what it will look like. If that means making a maquette out of clay, then that's what you have...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Can you post a close-up of the head? To be honest that's really the most important part. I totally agree that in a portrait (sculpture or painting) the facial likeness is crucial, but it is only a PART of what is required when you are looking at a full length pose. There are some real "howlers" out...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I've now put a bit more time into the maquette and here it is in the photo below. My arm appears to give you an indication of scale and you'll see the face is no bigger than my little finger. I've also uploaded a series of photos taken all around the maquette which you can see here: http://s103.phot...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Thanks to everyone for your comments, particularly the negative ones! It's clear that everyone wants to see more effort put into the facial likeness, (even into a small scale maquette), which I can do. Obviously a finished full-sized statue demands nothing less and considerably more work would go in...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

A fine attempt John, but, with all due respect and in no way meant to offend, it just isn't Nat. Shoulders a bit on the narow side, ears too prominent and the face well, it's too old to be honest. Nat was a pit lad, lean, sturdy and all muscle, built like a corporation flagstone, strong and a real ...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I've now virtually finished the maquette (small scale model) that I said I was intending to make with the intention of submitting it to BWFC. I've taken some photos of it which can be seen in a slideshow here: http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m154/exdos/Nat%20Lofthouse%20%20Maquette/?albumview=sli...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I have made enquiries and it appears that BWFC is presently considering what should be done. I am presently making a maquette (small scale model) of Nat from which my wor...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Is it possible? Zulu, As far as making a sculpture goes, almost anything is possible except Lofty being portrayed with his feet off the ground and no visible support! I must stress that I haven't yet got the job, but it's my intention to try to get it. In posting on this forum, I'm trying to get as...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I rather like the idea of some sort of "triptych" but in a slightly different setting. Should that be physically possible and within the bounds of any financial constrictions - which I suspect would be a problem - the idea is to use the image of Nat as a young man leaving the mine (the one which se...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I would like to see Lofty's statue pay reference to his support and association with football in Bolton after playing. I just can't think how to do it. With being just a young whippersnapper, I never saw Nat play myself. But I remember him at Burnden Park and at local do's and then later around the...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

I've seen Fred Dibnah two or three times in the flesh and several on TV programme series. I've never yet seen him dressed any differently than overalls and a flat cap. :D You may have a point, but Nat was what he was, a man of his roots and the people. The final choice will be made by others, the "...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

Think it has to be the pit lad for me. There are statue's everywhere of blokes in footbal kit holding balls and in various standing, kicking positions etc. Nat was unique in Bolton and not just a footballer, not just an F.A Cup winner, not even just an england player but a legend. He deserves somet...

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue

John, from what I've read on here and other places, the most popular image of Nat that people would like to see made in to the statue would be the one where he is holding up the cup whilst being lifted by team mates. Similar to these: http://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/dynamic/00541/lofthouse_...
