R.I.P Big Jack Charlton. May God rest his soul.
Not an easy man to like given the team he played for and his style of management but certainly someone to admire. Won loads as a player and adored by the supporters of the sides he managed. RIP wor Jack

Anyway I'm just glad that we finally have that mythical creature of a 20 goal a season striker :)
Which will complement Faal and his 35 goals next season, perfectly :D

Re: The athletics/running thread

Plodded round 4 miles tonight. Decided if I’m going to be slow then I’ll try and up the mileage slowly instead. Try ultra running. Them buggers walk most of it! Or a triathlon where I can just cheat and get on my bike when I get knackered? Yeah......that's not how triathlons work though. Sorry It's...

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

Thanks for those DSB, I enjoyed looking through them and a couple jumped out. Guy at Everton, Luke Garbutt. Left sided, good league experience but surely desperate to put roots down somewhere after several loan spells. Likely to have options higher up I expect. Ethan Hamilton. I liked this lad. He s...

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

^ surprises me that Insane because that's how I imagined Lowe would fit in there for us. I assume amongst all the attacking options of Evatts system, there would be 1 holding midfielder ala Paul Warhurst sat in front of the 3 centre backs. Lowe, rarely wastes possession but offers little attacking t...

Re: Pies in administration

I see that the £6m talked about earlier is, according to the Beeb, this months wages which haven't been paid plus costs to the seasons end.

Their supporters group bravely suggesting that the points deduction shouldn't be enforced in these circumstances. Hmmm

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

Darryl Murphy did well in a struggling side. Doyle will still be younger than he was at the end of his 3 year deal.

I(a)n Evatt we trust

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

Sarcevic has a great reputation and would be another coup. Him, hopefully Doyle and Crawford would be a real statement of intent.

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

Devante Cole's career hasn't panned out as many thought it would when he was scoring regularly for Fleetwood. He's got a lot of L1 experience yet played for a lot of clubs for a 25 year old. He might be worth a look at? It's a no to Spearing for me. For what we shelled out on wages for him, I though...

Re: Summer 2020 transfers

Maybe it's the pessimist in me but my big worry reading that is the potential for a fall out between Evatt and Phoenix. The former has a track record to speak of. The latter, not so much. I'd hope it's Evatt that has the final say and the greater power in the relationship. Surely people falling out...

Re: Pies in administration

https://www.wigantoday.net/sport/football/wigan-athletic-soap-opera-takes-another-staggering-twist-2902535 I think the story is the new ‘owner’ is involved with a Far East betting syndicate and needs them to get relegate, so their upturn in form has meant they have taken matters into their own hand...

Re: Tonight's Football

I see Jose's Spurs career is following the same trajectory as his Man Utd one. Bitterness and recrimination after every defeat by a more motivated, well drilled and better coached side. I'll be surprised if he's still there by xmas

Re: Contract expiry

I didn’t see Delaney play, and I may be jumping to conclusions because he’s 6ft5 (and willingly released by Rochdale), but is the sort of centre-back who’s comfortable getting the ball to feet from his goalkeeper, as Evatt demands? I think we’re likely to see Kean Bryan types, possibly including Ke...

Re: Pies in administration

Something incredibly fishy about all this. Company that buys the club from Whelan, sells to someone else but with the same majority shareholder. In the middle of the pandemic. New chap emerges and puts them into administration. BBC cites the pandemic as the cause. Hmmm The EFLs governance, fit and ...

Re: New Manager Thread

Very happy. To be fair, only the appointment of Megson left me underwhelmed in the past 20 years but this guy seems to know what he wants and expects from his players and doesn't seem like a guy to cross.

He's got my full backing for the next 2 years. I'll decide on a 3rd depending where we are.
