Pru... My Review of Elmet on FB... 2018 Booker Award is due to be announced in three weeks time, and, as usual, I bought the previous shortlist and, also as usual, haven’t read all of them before the new winner announcement. So, today I finished reading Fiona Mozley’s explosive novel ‘Elmet’. This i...

We got away with that. It could have been a record home defeat if Sheff had continued to play as they did in the first 15 mins.
This is nearer the truth about our quality than the points we've scrounged before (without playing convincingly). I expect another relegation struggle.

Home or away we play like the away side. It's working. But it won't continue to work. Ameobi made the game come alive. We missed Vela in a midfield that really wasn't working in the first half, where we were second best by a distance. But we won. I have a glass of chilled white wine and a slightly h...

Re: Bolton v Burton, who'll show their true pedigree and who'll end up bitter? H Sat 16/Dec
It was worse than abysmal. After the first ten minutes when Ameobi looked to get in the game big style and Vela was bossing midfield... After that terrible. The second half even worse than the first. Parkinson wants to play the big man up front and the long ball to him. When you can't make it work a...

bolton boris's story is of an easily embarrassed 17 year old girl misplaced in a job she doesn't want at her mother's insistence telling the truth about how she feels. It's brilliant how hoboh manages to take from that sinister corbyn supporters infiltrating the educational system to ensure we lose ...

I finished Mohsin Hamid’s Booker short-listed ‘Exit West’ today. I enjoyed his ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ hugely, and while this, IMHO, doesn’t quite hit that mark, it is a powerful, tense, intelligent, gripping work. At the heart of it are Saeed and Nadia, citizens of a Muslim country (unnamed)...

It's years since I've seen a game played in such terrible weather conditions. The last half hour was all but impossible as water just remained on the surface. I'm not judging anyone on today. I just know I was glad to get home, with clothes so soaked I had to do a complete change.

Re: A wiser Wanderers to meet with the Owls - Bolton v Sheffield Wed 14/10/2017
Such a good feeling leaving the stadium today. I'd almost forgotten what it was like. We deserved the victory. We played well all over the pitch (Alnwick was outstanding, and needed to be, Beevers his best of the season, the return of Vela showed what we've been missing, and my MotM, Ameobi, scored ...

Re: Bouncing back in Bristle? You must be off your Bristol Cities. Bristol City v Bolton 26/9/2017
I worked at Bristol Old Vic in the early 1990s (part time about 3 days a fortnight) so made a good number of friends amongst the Robins fans... So have had messages of 'good luck' over the last couple of weeks... My answer is all we have to do to lose is show up... And, it seems to me, was ever thus...

Re: Vale of tears or happy valley? Port Vale (A) Sat 22 Apr 3pm
At which point, Vale got involved. It started with a couple of not-rights vaulting the fence and passing the pitiful stewarding in front of the Railway Stand to our right. Giving it the standard arms-wide come-for-a-cuddle displayed by those who truly miss their mother's teat, they were duly enjoin...

Re: Vale of tears or happy valley? Port Vale (A) Sat 22 Apr 3pm
Obviously delighted with today's result. I agree with the mad one that Madine is a crucial player this season - frustrating as he is, hot and cold as he is, clumsy and ineffectual as he can be... But effective, yes, importantly so. But this season has been built on an outstanding centre back partner...
