Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Can we make space if needed? If we stay down I don't think that'll be a problem, as some will have offers and want out. Who are you expecting to walk if we stay down? I must admit I'm not expecting a stampede. Still questions over Santos. Sheehan's 29. Maaaaybe interest in Dion (again) but we've ha...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Positional flexibility means it's not always this simple, but one basic way to look at squad depth is XI vs XI. Without descending into "he's better than him" arguments, next season we have these players under contract: .............Charles Collins......... Williams Thomason Dempsey JDC ...............

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Would anyone take Kioso vacation? Seems to have jumped between a few clubs in Champo/Lg1 including loan deals. Did okay for us and experience of a division up. I think part of why he left was couldn't settle oop North, mate...so dunno... And yet he was at Rotherham lol Luton, Northampton, Milton Ke...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Up front, if we lose JDB and Cam in summer, that feels like space. A bit of space, but not much, considering we'll have AC, DC, Vic and Dan – all strikers Evatt spent club money on - plus CMG as a wildcard fifth forward. Doesn't mean I don't think we should have an eye out - for instance, I wonder ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Interested to see Barnsley's retained/released list when it emerges. Per Transfermarkt, among those falling out of contact are Devante Cole, Nicky Cadden, Herbie Kane and Jordan Williams. Jamie McCart's also been listed by Rotherham, whence he was loaned to the Tykes...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I would suspect that players "like" Ogbeta and Azeez are more likely candidates than "bigger" names. If we do go up, we will be suddenly swimming in a pond of sizeable fishies. Doesn't mean success is impossible (ask Ian's mate Rob Edwards) but we'll have to be savvy. If we need say five signings, I...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm
Ah no worries, it was always likely they'd go down. I assume, the weather being nice, we'll get to see Vinny Kompany doing his full Kendall-off- Succession impression. Also been a bit weird this season wanting them to do well because Traf was in goal. As soon as they dropped him, I could once more d...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I take it you wouldn't want to sign Ogbeta or Ashworth, then? I've quite liked both, especially Nat, but I can see what you mean. We need players who will raise the ceiling - or indeed the roof.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I'm not sure what discussions on here have been, but I have us needing 5-6 (minimum 4) in over the summer - unless we lose some to big bids. Not so much discussions as Schopenhauerian laments about the futility of attempting to find joy given the inevitability of disappointment because true fulfilm...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I'd also be right after Wiredu at Fleetwood as the defensive utility player, but then I thought the same about Deji last season. I know you've eyed Wiredu a while. But while I know he can play more than one position, do you think there's scope for another centre-back addition, assuming we have John...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Lovely to have you back, Ghost. I was thinking this morning that as it stands, we have four midfielders next season - Sheehan, Thomo, Dempsey and Morley. I assume we'll go for Paris if possible, but that still leaves space for one more. Could be Byers. Just hope we don't get... wait for it... Byers ...

He'd have 'proven himself' unable to get out of this division... not sure it would create a queue at the door.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
As I said the other week, it will be interesting to see if we strengthen the back three this summer (whichever division). It would have to be a big upgrade – you'd assume Santos is a shoo-in, Johnston is back, Toal seems popular with the manager. Then Jones is a good squad member, Iredale offers cov...

Our lads out of contract in summer: Nat Ogbeta Zac Ashworth Declan John Jon Dadi Bodvarsson Cameron Jerome interestingly JDB's new contract had a year extension triggerable by appearances, although it was never made clear how many. He made 46 appearances in all comps (18 starts), 36 in the league (1...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Could be some really exciting signings made this summer! Yeah, you'd hope so. Not quite sure where though. I think it might be about adding dashes of quality where available rather than saying, for instance, "a No.10". Not sure any of the exciting players are mentioned above like, either, but as I ...

Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Obvz we don't yet know what division we're in, but for most of the Football League the games are over and the released/retained lists are coming out. We'll need some players this summer, and their names might first appear omn here - who'd have linked us with Josh Dacres-Cogley? Anyway... ROTHERHAM r...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs TBC. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm
Yeah, but Posh rested a load as we were up next...edit: think that was the game they made 8 changes? No, that was another game a bit later in the season, mate. Curious though, Oxford. As I say, after that 5-0 walloping at Bolton , Buckingham tweaked his midfield (from "two 6s and an 8" to "a 6 and ...
