That’s not what happened with Coyle but ok.
Literally worked there at the time and was directly involved, but okay.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

The world doesn’t work like ‘oh we’ve either got to fully commit to him or not’ It's the only way football works. Coyle is a prime example of just that issue. We kept him on through a summer to "see how it went" and could have fixed a lot of issues by sacking him. When we did sack him, after not gi...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

On topic. The Sarpong-Wiredu chase may have started in earnest. Fleetwood are apparently expecting his release clause to be triggered "imminently", though what that means could vary. If there's any cash then he has to be on the list, surely. Solves two issues to a high level with one player and capt...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Lets try this slightly differently. :-) I think (whatever the view of the respective strengths of the Division next season), that anything below play-offs would certainly be disaster - I suspect you agree. I could absolutely see a scenario where we are at least broadly in touch all year and don't q...

Aye, and has been said, Buckingham didn't do consistently flawless, so I'm not sure there's much point in favouring one position over t'other.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Everyone in key positions at the club has to be behind whatever choice is made, or it is more likely to fail. If Evatt doesn't have that support get someone who does. If he does, back him. I've been in a football club where people sat on the fence and held things back from a manager in case they nee...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

The idea you stick with Evatt for a whole season unless it’s ‘disastrous’ doesn’t make sense. Sunderland sacked Johnson, think they were third and went up. Buckingham came in December and went up. There are loads of examples of changing managers mid way through. Evatt imo should be gone by now. But...

Not for me 12-15 games, that was this year - I'll be reacting before then.
I'm sure. If the board feel the same way they should ask him to go now.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

For some reason, I find this quite funny! Absolutely. Certainly got a chuckle from me. It also reflects the views of St Mirren fans, though. They've had him as not the same player since his injury. It probably means it's a call we got right. If he looks a worldy next season I'm sure we'll all have ...

Re: Your England XI

He's left himself no choice, really. He's refused to call up and test left backs - so he has nothing to work with. Poor planning. Southgate's approach to football is much more conservative than almost all elite coaches, so the English players other managers might use on the left aren't players he wo...

Mansfield Town has signed Keanu Baccus.

Agree with the warm words. I'd like to see him in the stands at an away game more than I'd like to see him on the pitch next season, though.

Job very not suited for him in that it’s been a very unstable club - revolving managerial door, boardroom chaos, entitled fans.
Is he at more risk there than he would be here?

A week ago yes. I'd suggest not now.

Which he would probably take if offered.

He's no longer "unsackable" at Bolton and we're no longer his guaranteed vehicle to the Premier League.

If he's going then us getting paid is nice.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I do think the points required will be less next year. It's not like last season where there were 3 outstanding teams, then a decent group and then the dregs. There will be 8 or do teams who will genuinely think they can win it and will all take points off each other, and then those decent teams an...

Doesn't Pep statistically make the lowest volume of substitutions in the PL?
Pep surrounds himself with brilliant people who tend to get things right the first time.

He also happens to have some of the best players in the world, who can fix things on their own when it's not working.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Quite. His to-do list is considerable. If he doesn’t fancy it, off he pops. Which is not to say “rip it up and start again” or that he’s a hopeless cause. But there’s a big job on. Huge and not one he can do alone. Some things can't be made sense of from the outside. A lot of transfers didn't work ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Yep. Pep might well have made a change. Upsetting for the subbed lad(s) but it’s a team game. The not-so-secret secret with Pep is he doesn't do it alone. People like Dunn have a huge influence on how City set up game to game and what they target. Does Evatt have those people around him? We can see...

What I keep coming back to is he refused to change it at half time. feck me if that wasn’t the time to go all Bruce Rioch when is?
