Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I like Ogbeta personally, but I would like to see us sign a next-level WB on both sides. We knew last summer we needed one on the right - hence K*ne W*lson - and I think we need a Randell rival on the left. Whether Oggy's that, I dunno. Of course, if we're switching to a back four.... If we'd signe...

Is he as good as Declan John?
He's as good as John, but he has the opposite issue.

John thought he was too good to have to try. Oggy has spoken about having confidence issues.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

But if we change system... hang on, my brain's broken... No recruitment bod is going to recommend switching systems looking at that group, but the manager may feel something dramatic is needed. You can't just "go again" at a stronger division without any changes, because that's insane. However, you...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

If you were Evatt, why would you leave unless you have received a great offer elsewhere? Me personally? If I felt I couldn't do the job to my best level I'd resign, yes. Mileage varies, though, and I agree with your point. I think the worst thing for the football club is a half-arsed, sulking Evatt...

I'm just not convinced he can drive enough change (and I mean enough, rather than wholesale) to get what's maybe the required 10% improvement.
Neither am I, as things stand.

I think he's capable, in theory. I'm not sure the current man, as he exists in the real world, can.

He needs to show it.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Quick thought.

If we went back-4 and signed Ashworth, are people then happy with that one?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I would be surprised if Baxter stays. He will want to play higher up the pyramid. He reset his carreer with us, well below where he really want to be, but would have expected to be in the Championship next season. That hasn't happened so if a good offer comes in for him, he will be gone. Think this...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

You're not selling me on the vision here, Ghost! 🤣🤣 I know, I know  He's had three proper jobs. Absolutely excelled in two and made real mistakes in the third. I actively want a manager who has experienced failure and come back better. He's played multiple styles of football with different gro...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I think we need to separate signings like Forrester, Moulden and Ashworth from the Collins and Dions of this world. We need signings that will really take on League One. We also need to make investments and some of those will fail. You have to sell players eventually, though, to keep the lights on. ...

Out of interest, Ghost, who would top your list of replacement managers?
My appointment would be really unpopular.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

In short, it needs to shit or get off the pot. That much, yes. You win or it doesn't matter. This is the first time, for me, Evatt has objectively failed. I think previously each season could be seen as successful. This one can't. Most managers fail. The question is how they react. I don't like Ian...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

4 new wingbacks seems a stretch when Randell has mostly done well and Cogley was in the Team of the Year.

I'm sick of talking about (the now promoted) Kane Wilson. Get me two wingbacks of that level, please, so I can shut up about it.

Nixon says we're after signing Ashworth on a permanent.

Has he been injured as he's not featured for months?
Neither has Ramsay and I've no clue what has gone on there either.

Some aspects of this run in, as well as being really disappointing, have been just plain weird.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

The issue for me is we score so many goals and have just added a 750k forward who is thriving in this system. My instinct is 100% to fix the issues and save what's clearly working. I do understand the "change completely and go simple" stuff, but there's so much that works. Changing the formation won...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I'm not really tied to a particular formation, it's sort of why Managers exist. 352, 433, 442 which ever one gets us up. Most "formations" are meaningless now. Almost all teams play different shapes based on where the ball is at the time and players are expected to know. Very little static stuff on...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Specifically I’d say a 4231! Meh, numbers. Players have roles. The numbers don't really matter. If we switch to whatever your preferred system is who do YOU rely on being able to win League One next season? I'm not setting a trap, just wondering how many first 11 players you feel we'd need to top t...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Sounds more like Moulden has ties to Bolton so 2+2=4, thereby we're interested. Same maths would give Bogdan a chance of signing for us given he's been watching our play off final. If Nicko is just pulling strings, fine. We need better players in parts of the 11, but we also need to be more robust ...
