Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Just mentioned it as Sercombe and Long have decided not only to dip into non-league but to join local rivals. The gap between Divs 5 & 4 is clearly narrowing. Fewer financial rules in non-league these days compared to the EFL, but still plenty of money from owners. Lads can often make more money in...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Forest Green, freshly relegated to non-league, sign Liam Sercombe and Sean Long, freshly released from Cheltenham. I had time for FGR at one stage, but the club (and especially the owner) has become increasingly insufferable - culminating in the appointment of Troy Deeney. Delighted to see them gone.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Pompey went 17 unbeaten from late Jan to April (when they'd already gone up). Plymouth went 15 unbeaten the season before. Ipswich went 19 unbeaten. These are the kinds of runs you need. Our longest unbeaten run in the season just gone was 7. Evatt's longest unbeaten run since promotion is 8. Lincol...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Agree with what you're saying in general, mate - but I think it would look much better if he explained that next to his new MF maestro, rather than a lorry load of top-soil. :-) The only thing, I think I've seen in print was "“This hurt will last for longer than a while. We all need to look in the ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Gotta say mate, (knowing it's a bit of a bugbear for you), I don't think there's a great message around a new pitch for most, no matter how well you spin it. :-) It's nothing to do with the pitch. It's simply that there's a need for a sign of commitment and you don't want it to look like a vote of ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I wouldn't say much, apart from maybe "Managers, players had a week off and are now raring to go" type of generic bullshit. This is the type of thing that's needed. There are all kinds of ways you can do it. The easiest would probably be something about the new pitch (if that's happening) and how I...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I'd also be very astonished if we didn't have those two lists. It's basically Markham's job. Things take time but we're all impatient after Saturday! If there's an impediment it will be available cash, not preparation by Markham et al. From what Hart said there will be a lot of demands on our cash ...

Re: Tonight's Football

Don't necessarily disagree, as you've mentioned, formations are starting points. City are often 442 off the ball. Very modern. (And 325 on it, how super very modern). The issue has largely been the two isolated. How do you stop the full back being the easy out? If there's three of you (a front thre...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

I think my favourite aspect of the Gareth Ainsworth suggestion is that one of the complaints about Evatt is he can't adapt his football.

In terms of adaptability to different habitats Ian Evatt is a footballing triffid vs the hoofball Orchid that is Gareth Ainsworth.

^^ It is possible we'vd not heard from Shaz/Ian/Board, because it's not occurred to them that it's even a thing... In terms of sacking him at least. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

TrotChat claiming Rangers have made an approach for Dion Inevitable rumours would swirl around our top scorer. No idea what "TrotChat" does or doesn't know, but it'll be interesting to see what goes on. Dion, Thomason, Vic and Santos have always been the most likely to attract early interest - just...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Looks like Baxter is staying next season. Baxter staying on would be great. Him signing a new deal, though it seems unlikely, would be a huge statement. If we could add a genuine young talent to the keeping group, who could settle in over the next season, we'd at least have a continuity plan in pla...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Ta, and if he's played wingback before as well as centre half I assume could play right (?) back too. Pretty sure he could play anywhere across defence or midfield, at a pinch. In our current system he could play to his maximum anywhere in the back three, or in a defensive midfield role. He could d...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I know the name but not sure I've seen him play much other than against us. For those in the know (and conscious of my promise on the other thread) do you reckon he could centre half and midfield in a 433 (not at the same time...)? Yes, though in my view he suits a back three better. He was a very ...

Re: Tonight's Football

See above, the problem is the 2, not the 5. Depends on the opposition. Your press needs to adapt to the opposition. Ours did in the first half of the season. In the second half, with the injuries, it got patchy. Last season we used Lee a lot in the press as a hybrid #10. This season that has often ...
