Re: Brexit or Britin

TTIP is a right-wing idea. Now, lets all be serious about this and have a think. Please try. But does anyone actually believe that Nu Britin under the leadership of Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, with their ultra-right-wing backers (and some hangers on from the British Ukip of Fascists posdibly) a...

Well there was the TTIP...

It'll be interesting to see if the EU still manage to push that through now.

Re: Brexit or Britin

It's a bit of both. Trollies cost a surprising amount to manufacture, and supermarkets lose a not insignificant bit of cash to them being nicked each year. As I said above it's costing them enough that they're actually looking into using technology like GPS enabled wheel locks and locators. Already...

Re: What are you reading tonight?

I think I recommended Wild on here, if not as a book then certainly the film version. With the possible exception of Bridge of Spies my favourite film of 2015. I'm definitely enjoying it so far, just not my typical sort of book. Probably will check out the film too once I'm done :). There's usually...

I was definitely not prepared for Chapter 1.

Re: Brexit or Britin

Chuka maybe? He seemed to me the most exciting of the prior candidates.

Though last time around he pulled out because he didn't want to be in the spotlight. Has the situation now changed enough to warrant putting up with that?

Re: What are you reading tonight?

I've just finished reading The Stone Man. Sci Fi novel set in the UK. Decentish read, intriguingly makes you wonder "what if", wasn't convinced by the ending though. Didn't seem to be setting it up for a sequel yet left some plot threads unresolved. Starting a non fiction book next. Wild: From Lost ...

Re: Brexit or Britin

I really can't stand Farage, but I've seen so many people on Twitter regurgitating the garbage that is his interview concerning the NHS not getting the £350m. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Farage never even made that claim. It was Vote Leave who were making that claim and had it plas...

Re: Brexit or Britin

I don't get this at all. I certainly didn't hear anyone mention delaying leaving. Now we're outta there, surely we want to get this nasty VAT off fuel, an extra £100m per week for the NHS, removal of all the red-tape, increasing our border controls, getting the new Trade Agreements in place as fast...

Re: Brexit or Britin

God there's some panic fannies about. If the vote had been reversed it would have been "A ringing endorsement, nothing to see here, carry on etc etc" all conveniently forgetting the 48% & umpteen millions that voted against it. We've hardly told the EU to sod off. Like the French. the Swedes, the D...

Re: Brexit or Britin

I'm not sure there'd be enough support for Scottish independence despite what's just happened. 38% of Scotland still voted to leave the EU. I can't see the other 62% all believing that being part of the EU is more important than being part of the UK. At the very least they should wait and see how we...

Re: Brexit or Britin

Problem is that once you head down that route, the options I suspect would start to become unmanageable. If we took the question "Do you want a free trade agreement with Europe?" for example - would that include one that encompassed free movement of people? etc. It wouldn't surprise me if there had...

Re: Brexit or Britin

So people think if we vote stay the government will decide "nah, lets just leave anyhow"? Really? I mean there are a few mentalists who believe wild conspiracy theories but this stretches it a bit. Probably more the opposite. The only way the government would leave without the backing of a referend...

Knowing our government, they'd probably stuff up altering the voting slips and would then need to lie about the result anyway.

Re: Brexit or Britin

:D Tory voter or not, we're talking about a new Prime Minister, something that effects us all equally. The idea that Johnson could become PM is as frightening as the notion of President Trump. That's going a bit too far. At least with Boris he'd press the red button accidentally whilst explaining h...

Re: Brexit or Britin

So we should ignore anything Brexit says, as they can't actually deliver on it? That's just a bizarre notion... It's a bizarre situation, but no I'm not saying that. There are so many unknowns in the case of Brexit that it could go several different directions. What would Cameron want to do? Would ...

Re: Brexit or Britin

We shouldn't be in a position where the Government that's in power can say "we've not taken VAT of fuel, we never made that promise"... They're politicians, they'd do that regardless of whether they actually made that promise or not. Or they'd say we'll do it in 5 years time, and then not do it in ...
