Oh i understand that they're two different genres (quite obviously so - one is in space and the other isn't!). Big fan of Lord of the Rings - from which most modern fantasy (if not all) is derived. Still, with the Gap Series the most compelling thing about Donaldson's writing is the effect that vary...

The Exorcist. Overhyped and over-rated. It was disgusting to ban this film in the first place, I firmly believe it would've tanked had it actually been released over here in its time. Clockwork Orange. How it gets so many plaudits I don't know. I think it was yesteryears portrayal of a guy who gets...

Interesting author Mr Donaldson. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever were similarly excellent once (if) you got past the first couple of hundred pages on leprosy I've got that one on my shelf - never got past the first rape scene (which is on about page 12). Always wanted to finish it ...

I mentioned this a few weeks ago. The wedding scene lasts for about an hour and adds absolutely nothing whatsoever to the film.
I thought exactly the same. I thought that I'd drifted off and caught the end of another film!

The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas. Read that one about two months good. Bloody good - but a bit of an emotional heart tugger. Can't really say more without giving the plot away - but let me know what you think when you've finished. I'm about to embark on an old fave of mine (for about the fifth time ac...

The Shawshank Redemption. Enjoyable enough, but hardly worth all the plaudits it gets. Sacrilege! Burn the heretic! See. I'm with Warty. I settled down to watch it expecting to to see the finest film on earth, and whereas it's a damn fine film it certainly didn't live up to all that I'd been lead t...

I can't believe that the greatest ever '80's film has been overlooked, which coined the phrase:

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full......

It may be a bit of a Gay Icon film now, but twas bloody class at the time.

Followed closely by another '80's classic - Karate Kid!

Bloody hell..... This thread is certainly taking me back.... Teen Wolf was bloody fun (at the time), and the likes of Indian Jones & Raiders of the Lost Ark (which I have an inkling may have been a tad before 1980!) and Back to the Future were ahead of their time. Rocky II and III also deserve speci...

Was going to get UT3, but I've heard a lot of negative stuff about. Decided to hold out for GoW2 - which uses the same game engine but about 100 times as much.....roll on November! UT3 is better than GOW. Don't see how people can play in the third person. Its just not right! Nothing is better than ...

Cant do whisk(e)y, it's me fighting drink . Went through a year or two in my late teens drinking bourbon, went right off thereafter.
