Re: The Grand National

He was our nemesis as kids. His 'staff' used to chase us off his land. One of his sons was the same age as me. I got great pleasure in our school always beating his school at football.

Re: The Grand National

The owner of the winner is my parents next door neighbour in Euxton. He flies into his property in a helicopter, landing in his rather large back garden. He was in the same school year as my Dad.

My Dad went onto be a joiner and builder, whereas Mr Hemmings went onto be a multi-millionaire.

Re: the Photo thread

I was in Cornwall for the last eclipse in '99. It was cloudy, of course, so no photo opportunitities  . Nevertheless, I videod the couple of minutes when darkness set in. A very, very strange experience. Difficult to describe what happened, but there were lots of strange noises and movement fr...

^ He's had a trial for Watford since his USA sojourn. I'd heard that too. Whenever the big, useless fecker's name's brought up I immediately think of this: :hang: MFGbK8DXsd8 I tell you what. Those highlights remind me of what a class player Mavies is and how we miss him. Incredibly skilled and bal...

Re: The Winter Hill Tale-Brighton home.

Impressed with Amos - some good saves and not afraid to b*llock those in front of him when needed. Hope he keeps the shirt tomorrow. Wheater excellent. Danns too liable to get caught in possession p*ssing around. Think Lennon got a bit lucky when Feeney had to come off as McNaughton is a "proper" r...

Re: Gigs and Films You've Walked Out Of

Almost walked out of 'Bonfire of the Vanities'. Can't remember whether we (Mrs H and I) actually went with the intent to watch it, or whether there weren't any seats at our preferred film. Either way, it was absolute rubbish.

Re: The Winter Hill Tale-Brighton home.

For someone playing at this level not to be able to put the ball into the right place from a corner every time is absolutely inexcusable.

Re: The Winter Hill Tale-Brighton home.

Well, that was a shocking game. I haven't checked the stats, but I counted one shot on goal from both sides in the first half. The second half wasn't much better. No quality at all from either side other than brief glimpses from Zak. First half we were lumping the ball up front, bypassing the midfie...

Ha!! Excellent. You could see her panicking to untie her shawl, then bam! Dragged backwards down the stairs she went!! Brilliant!! Spat my brew halfway across the room when it happened. So feckin funny. They shouldve done it with more of the acts    Shawl? Wtf? I'm now officially old...

Re: This majestical roof fretted with golden fire - Smoggies

I can only assume he was being rested? :conf: That seems to have been the plan, yes, to keep him fresh for the more crucial games to come. That meant we ended up with the two auld fellas playing most of the match together, which isn't ideal - I suppose we may have fared better pairing them up diffe...

Re: This majestical roof fretted with golden fire - Smoggies

Spoke to a couple of Smoggies fans today at work, who went last night. They were asking about that small dark haired lad who came on towards the end and "caused us real problems". They couldn't understand why he wasn't brought on earlier. Me too. I can only assume he was being rested? :conf:

Re: Trotters pics

Some time ago I discovered that if you enter 'Bolton British Pathe' into the search bar on Youtube, you can find quite a few old clips of Bolton at Burnden and elsewhere. There's an absolute belter of a video of the White Horse final, featuring the build-up, highlights and an unfortunately silent i...

Re: Lennon, four months in.

I like Lennon and I think he's an absolute breath of fresh air. Hopefully his success won't be too dramatic and we rise to the top over a prolonged season or three. That way we'll be able to enjoy and savour the 'moment' before the inevitable happens and he moves on. The only thing I think's a bit o...

Re: Today I'm happy about......

Today was another one of those potentially very difficult days in the Hopeful household. Both sons decided to take their driving tests on the same day!! There's 18 months between them in age and they're like chalk and cheese in many respects. #1 son wasn't really interested in learning, whereas #2 s...
