Re: The Politics Thread
Here Prufrock, I'll give you a hand. A nice summary from a poster on JC's Facebook group: So finally today we got Andy Burnham’s ‘leadership manifesto’. After weeks of having nothing to really talk about (with only Corbyn willing to publish his manifesto), we can now start to discuss a bit about wha...

Re: The Politics Thread
so now you're suggesting people SHOULD vote Corbyn because it needs to move leftwards??? :conf: Burnham was on telly last night on about re-nationalising the trains. Now, is this a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that Corbyn's clearly doing very well with his left wing agenda and that Burnham's felt...

Man City (Left I think) winger who just signed a 4 year contract, but is going out on loan. Fast and tricky.
We are definitely interested - but other clubs are also.

Re: The Politics Thread
I quite like Corbyn although I suspect his naïve views on migrants being only due to wars and the EU may be a chasm to wide to breech between our views. "Why is the UK seen as a target? The situation in Calais is part of a wider migration crisis in Europe - caused largely by the displacement of peo...

Re: The Politics Thread
Public investment in infrastructure, housing and hi-tech industry, using targeted quantitative easing, combined with redistributive taxation and rights at work: “Corbynomics” is scarcely revolutionary. As the Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman put it, when Labour supporters refuse to accept...

Re: The Politics Thread
Again, Corbyn-ites don't have a monopoly on ideas and principles. You keep saying it like the only decision is between people who believe in ideas and people who believe in winning. ok - what ARE Burnham and Cooper's ideas and principles? give us a handy bullet-point list.

Again, Corbyn-ites don't have a monopoly on ideas and principles. You keep saying it like the only decision is between people who believe in ideas and people who believe in winning. I'm saying you have to have both. Recognising middle-england is the ball-game doesn't mean do a poll to find out what...

Re: The Politics Thread
People keep saying the political landscape is changing. How, and where is the evidence? The way Labour elect leaders HAS changed. That does not mean the politics of the electorate as a whole is changing in the same way. We've had one recent coalition government where the smaller element of that coa...

Re: The Politics Thread
You can't dismiss the electoral system in this country, the one in which any Labour leader will have to win, as mere "psephology". It's not a dead topic. I wouldn't be surprised if Corbyn sticks another 5,000 on the majorities of all the Labour London seats, I wouldn't be surprised if he fights off...

Re: The Politics Thread
As William pointed out - the heart of the debate on here is really around Psephology. Which is really a dead topic as it's people trying to cleverly predict the future based on historical patterns. Just because Bwfc have not beaten a team in 10 attempts does not mean they won't in the next game. The...

Re: The Politics Thread
No danger? The danger is Osborne or May for 5 years after this. Then big Boris after that. Then who knows...that is the danger. You said the 'danger is in thinking the mood is more widely represented than it is'. I was responding that that is not a danger. It is not fixed. It is in a state of growt...

Re: The Politics Thread
Not one person has argued for someone to do "basically everything the Tories do only slightly more compassionately". As for "whatever that means", well, you've just made it up, so if you don't know, who does?! Just saying the other three are basically Tories doesn't make it so. It's a self-indulgen...

Or, more pertinently, Michael Foot! I have no knowledge about the crowds that Michael Foot drew to be honest. Did he hold a similar profile? Sure, but if he was on on the town hall steps I reckon that I'd turn out to listen to what he has to say too. It doesn't follow that I'd either agree with him...

There is no danger :P There are massive crowds turning out in every town across the country wherever he speaks. Remind me of another political speaker attracting similar numbers...ever? It is the beginning of a significant political shift; the wider electoral appeal at this moment is not important. ...
