Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

I think our current philosophy is always going to elicit uncomfortable feelings when it goes wrong. It feels unforgivable to be staring at defeat now from a position of such strength due to a sporting declaration. Similarly Pakistan will feel they’ve been given a lifeline when ordinarily they’d have...

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

What scoring so quickly has done here is bought us time to take those 20 Pakistan wickets. We’re already up to a total that we’d be expecting at tea on day 2. If we bat until lunch on day 2 we’ll be over 600. In a country where wins are rare that’s a great position to be in.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

Unbelievable start in Pakistan. Made it to lunch rattling along at a run a ball without losing a wicket. We’ve essentially bought ourselves another session there which may be the difference between bowling Pakistan out on the final day and then saving a draw. Need to cash in now and get a properly b...

Re: The Big Shiny World Cup thread

I'm not convinced there's no way we're winning it. Before a ball was kicked I'd have us about 4th-6th favourites. Since then we've won very well, Argentina looked ropey, and France have been decimated with injuries. Still not favourites, but we definitely can win it. There's always areas of the sid...

Re: The Big Shiny World Cup thread

You can rank Argentina wherever you like at least 10 premiership teams would wipe the floor with them. At least. International football really is a bit pants. It’ll be interesting to see how quality improves as the tournament progresses. Top club sides now are so well coached with their systems tha...

Re: The Big Shiny World Cup thread

Great performance by Saudi so far. An underdog playing well and looking like they may beat a favourite would be great to watch BUT IT’s SAUDI ARABIA

Re: The Big Shiny World Cup thread

Just seen the highlights of today. Still scratching my head that the rugby tackle on McGuire went to VAR and wasn't a penalty, whereas a shirt-tug was. Anyway, how incredibly selfless of Callum Wilson to set up Grealish for the last goal. Regarding the USA, indeed, the days of Roy Wegerle, Cobi Jon...

Re: The Big Shiny World Cup thread

Iran were god awful. Amazing that they’re ranked 20th in the world. Only tactic from the start was sit deep, foul, and time waste. The earlyish goal rendered that pointless and we just picked them off. Has the gulf between the top nations and those 20-40th in the world widened? Qatar obviously woefu...

20000th reply on this thread, and why not use it to proclaim the return of Gavin Williamson to cabinet! As Insane said, I thought Sunak might be quite sensible but he’s brought a few mad ones back.
I think it’s fair to say he went as well as could be expected this time. 👋

Re: The Politics Thread

I wonder how much pension funds are going to be negatively impacted by this giveaway? You know the pension funds people were pretty much forced to buy by government economic policy....It's utter chaos. Indeed. I’ve been speaking to a mortgage broker this afternoon. He thinks the level of exposure i...

Re: The Politics Thread

I've voted Conservative all my life, but even I can see that any tax cuts needed to be weighted in favour of bottom up, not top down. This idea that inflation is running at 10% is absolute bollocks, it's around 20. As per the MD of Iceland supermarkets, the real effect is in the prices of milk, bre...

Re: The Politics Thread

I’m absolutely sick of the current government and I think today’s budget just takes the absolute piss. Many people are facing a really tough period ahead financially. Their mortgage rates will be rocketing, fuel bills increasing and inflation at 10%. The governments answer? Tax cuts for the wealthie...

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

He got 3 at 17.7. Think I read he's got them at 17 over the summer so can't have moved too much. Ridiculous acheivement. Broad went past McGrath in this test too. So he did! I’d missed his second wicket yesterday. His best 4 years have been 2017, 2022, 2020, 2021 in that order. Noticeably fewer wic...

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet

Something to ponder. James Anderson is 33 test wickets short of 700. He’s 42 short from going past Shane Warne who is 2nd highest test wicket taker of all time. To say it’s possible he will surpass both milestones is frankly one of the most unbelievable sporting stories I think you can imagine. Yea...

Re: General Chit Chat

Feck me, just had our first electric bill in for the business since our contract switched to the new pricing. We went from approx £1k last month to approx £3.5k this month. That is with no heatwaves and mainly autumnal weather this summer. At home our tank of heating oil went up almost triple from ...
