Re: Release or retain?
Karl offers us a lot in front of the back 4 (or 5, depending) - but he's 35 and I'd only offer him new terms if it's a deal that assumes him having a gradually reducing role over time. If he were 25 I'd be shouting "sign him up!", but unless he's the Midlands version of Gary Speed he will decline ov...

Re: We are (hopefully) staying up: the opposition
If your manager is doing a decent job then he'll get linked to available gigs. Parky is a doing well to keep us above the drop zone, so he's bound to be considered if the likes of Reading need a manager. Managers don't usually do loyalty. This isn't Parky's dream job and Reading are, at the minute, ...

Re: Release or retain?
I've left Alnwick out purely on the assumption we can find a better option in the summer market Are you on actual drugs? Nope. If the club don't have viable targets from the available Bosmans then they can offer him a new deal as needed. He's unlikely to be inundated with huge contract offers befor...

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
I agree, just like understanding how to make good runs and where to stand in the penalty area can make you special - but they're not fashionable and they don't necessarily get fans excited about players. Stelios was the same. He was a Premier League player because of his footballing brain, rather t...

Re: Release or retain?
I want to see us push up the table, not scrap at the bottom again. We'll need a better keeper than we currently have on the books if we want to do that. All things being equal, I'd say a few positions need filling before we look at goalkeepers. Alnwick has kept us in things more times than a few, a...

It's very rare for teams to be totally incapable of playing proper football - it's whether they can do it and win. Rochdale play some great stuff, but they are fighting relegation in League One. It's be ages since Bolton played anything approaching decent football. It'd hurt less if we were further ...

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Jordan Rhodes is a good Championship player who was bought by two clubs that thought they wanted him, but actually wanted a totally different type of forward. He's not a great footballer and he's not going to go winning it with a high press, nor will he hold it up and link - he's there to make runs...

Re: We are (hopefully) staying up: the opposition
Whether it's 2 or 3 wins, we are close now. It's just about maintaining levels and maybe finding another 10% in the final third. If we can keep up the never-say-die attitude at the back we'll give ourselves every chance.

He wasn't sulking before. Games make people sharper. It's no surprise Madine scored all our goals when he played every minute right up the top. Hopefully ALF can continue. Clearly been brought back into the fold and is grafting. Which is good. Credit to him for turning it around. I don't think he's...

Re: Release or retain?
On current form why would not want to keep both Alnwick and Henry for another season? I would, on current form. It's whether either is prepared to take the kind of deal that reflects the fact that their current form isn't necessarily likely to continue. Henry is 35 and Alnwick hasn't pulled up tree...

Re: Release or retain?
Caveats on these. I've gone with Wheater, Beevers, Karachan, Ameobi, Flanagan and Kirchoff. I'd not break the bank to keep them and I'd want to make sure Flanners and Kirchoff can stay fit until the summer. I've left Alnwick out purely on the assumption we can find a better option in the summer mark...

The desire and organisation show against Villa was top drawer. Two more performances like that and we can start planning for next season's Championship campaign.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
If we aren't hanging onto either of our senior keepers then we need to bring in someone who is capable of playing for another few years at a good level and doesn't have a history of injuries. Turner looks a bright prospect, but he's not ready for an extended run as first choice at this level just ye...

Re: We are (hopefully) staying up: the opposition
I'd rather have points than a game in hand, given the terrible form of everyone in the relegation battle. We need to win at least 4 of the last 10 games to get us to the stage that usually keeps you up. Last season you needed over 50 points, but it's usually mid 40s to just about stay up and high 40...

Re: Can we get out of Gaol at Reading, or will we go home Wilde? Reading v B.W.F.C, 6TH March 8-0'clock.
Apparently Alfie was excellent last night - Might disappoint a few He's a good player. I know people who coached him at Stockport and Rochdale and they've only got positive things to say about his ability. We've also seen him score goals for us here. It's a question of whether his face fits and whe...

Re: Skidding up to 18th, or will our Championship drift north, end? BWFC v Preston 3/3/18 3pm
Yeah, I read the game very differently. I didn't think we were trying to take the game to Preston in any organised, attacking sense. We tried to condense the midfield to make it harder for them to pass the ball and easier for our mids to win it; but once we had possession (not often) we had no real ...

Re: Skidding up to 18th, or will our Championship drift north, end? BWFC v Preston 3/3/18 3pm
They are totally average, yes. They are 5 points above mid-table and we just handed them 3 of the 5, because we played like we afraid of the ball. I don't have an issue with Parkinson (he did well to get us up and will do very well if he can keep us up), but he is currently far too conservative at h...
