The Need for a club anthem

Post by Trotter Taylor » Thu Jul 22, 2010 2:37 am

I feel we are falling behind other clubs, we need to find an old but catchy song to be sung by the wanderers fans to make are fanbase unique, lets be honest we have not got the greatest selection of chants/songs.

I'd prefer Rule Britania or Jeruselm to God save the Queen (well the non sex pistols version anyway I used to like "our Sid")
How about "Uncle Joe's mintballs"?

Hello Trotter-Taylor. Welcome.

So, in what way are we falling behind?

And how will finding a new anthem help - will it stop us falling behind?

How about "Here we go again"? That's catchy.

Why not the original version?

Dion, after all, used to perform with the Belmonts, and Belmont has rather more of a Bolton connection than anything Status Quo have done...

Get The Happy Wanderer back. Uniquely Bolton song and I'm sure our scoreboard songsters could spice it up a bit with some new words..

Oh, and welcome in.

always been suprised 'The Wanderer' hasnt been adopted by bolton fans. catchy tune, simple lyrics and has 'Wanderer' in the title!

i often play it on the way to games for a laugh, and have heard a few attempts at it from the crowd but its never taken off.

suppoose its a bit to quick and talky to be sung by a crowd in unison, needs to be more balladish.

i would love a proper club anthem tho.

Do you mean that godawful soft-rock shitefest by the Scorpions (they were good once - The Zoo is a great song...) or the Roy Harper song, from his LP, Once?

If the latter, it's a good song, but hardly an anthem. If the former, then no.

Stick with Paul. Or possibly the Houghton Weavers - The Lion of Vienna. That was good.

Except for the fact we sing it at the end of every season!
Also why do we have to have a song? Just because very few other teams have one as well? Pointless.
I'd rather have a mixture of good chants and atmosphere during the game.
Bring back 'It is only the beginning,' fireworks, running man with flag and pre-game video on screen. Sorted

Hello Puskas thank you for your feedback, the reason i feel we are falling behind is because many clubs across england are adopting their own anthem e.g stoke- delilah sunderland- i cant help falling in love with you blackpool- glad all over this is making theses clubs fans more well known an recognised, if u asked a non bolton fan about bolton fans they would probably say ppor gates and a overused 'walkin down the manny road' song tht many clubs also sing. I feel a club anthem would help bolton fans stand out more an possibly attract more people to come- i have had many friends who no longer attend games because of the atmosphere is not what it was in are first few years in the premier league, yes ino its like tht when ur in your first few yeasr but i think a good anthem would bring it back!
ody else
Thankyou guys for all the welcomes

We've got chickens in our backyard
We feed them on Indian corn
But one's a bugger
For giving the other
A piggyback over the wall.

I suspect though that there is no club that had a forum committee meeting to plan such a thing. They emerge - or they don't - it can't be manufactured....

Mosaic's my friend. That's what we need !!
