Ordinary Shares

Post by silver90 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 5:23 pm

Dear All,

New to the site but hoping someone can help!

My girlfriend has inherited several thousand ordinary shares for 'Burnden Leisure Plc'.

I have been trying to ascertain a value for these shares but see that the company was de-listed in 2003.

Furthermore, it appears that now all the dust has settled on the legal side of things, the share paperwork is nowhere to be seen to clarify ownership - although the number of shares appears in the solicitors summary of estate.

Does anyone know how to obtain a value for these shares and if we would need to do anything further to prove ownership?

Many thanks in advance,

Owen

Not very helpful as to your question, I'm afraid, but I wouldn't get too excited about them.

Going entirely from memory I think these shares floated at above a pound each but eventually bottomed out at 7p each at which point Burnden Leisure de-listed from the Stock Exchange. I don't know if they have residual value or not - I imagine they do.

I think you'd probably need the share certificate, but to give you an idea, Eddie Davies owns 2.3 billion ordinary shares, Phil Gartside owns 18.6 million and Warby owns 46.1 million.

Last trading information for ordinary shares I can find is 1.25p per share with a 52 week high of 3.5p and a 52 week low of 0.62p

So you might get a tenner for every thousand shares?

Not sure you'd get owt. Who would want to bother buying them with the Club in private hands, other than the people who already own it, who don't need them?

thanks for the replies - all helpful

was working on the basis their value was low and they would be minimal/zero interest in purchasing

still may be worth a letter to the co.sec - if the return is more than the cost of a stamp, then it's a win right?! ...

Yes well, I think as a club shareholder you should be dipping your hand in your pocket to help fund the purchase of a couple of new players.

Worth a pop. I might try a phone call first. Probably cheaper than a stamp. :-)

I would look into where the fancy shareholders' annual dinner is and get yourself along.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
