Sorry for the adverts being more prominent, but I need to generate some funds.

Unfortunately the more in your face they are, the more you get per click.

So you're gonna have to put up with it :P

Unless you all fancy donating a quid each? ;)

Meh, some things have just got to be. We'll have to come up with a new board protocol for real links!!

seems fair enough - are the linked words from a list of "key" words - it is it random?

is there a prize for the post with the most linked words in?

I have no problem with it at all.
I write words for a living. I play records for a living. Both of these thing should tell you that I'm a failed musician.

Then I must assume that you may wish to purchase real estate in Newmarket (Ontario) and are dissatisfied with the size of your...er...equipment. That was what hit me before I saw this thread.

For some reason, they keep offering to find me "Thurs Jan". Indeed, at the top of this page, I can access their database of all the Jans in the country.

Which is nice.

lol, you need to send 1 million of them to my offshore account ;)

I am gutted to see the ad's myself, but I have spent too much of my own money keeping the site going :S

If every member who posted on a regular basis was to donate £1 a year then it would definitely help, but people wouldn't and I don't expect them to. So unfortunately it's the ad's :(

I seriously would donate, honestly I would, if it helped keep these adverts away, that's not a dig mate in any way at all! I'm sure it's as much a time expense as it is monetary and I wouldn't have the know-how, nor the patience to do it myself. It's just that I've gotten used to going on to other clubs' forums, getting pop-up messages and the like and thinking "Thank god 'ours' don't have these" and almost (quite sadly) feel a bit of pride in that

Tell me about it boris, I once said that I'd never have adverts on this site, so I am well gutted.

The cost of the site has come down recently, but it's just the constant amount I've had to pay over the years that's just got a bit silly now.

It's £15 a month, so over a year that's £180. People in the past have been great in helping contribute, but that was over a few years ago now so I've had to pay that for 2 - 3years which also included months where it could stretch to £30 a month.

It is a simple fact that if 50 members donated £2 for the year that would make my life a whole lot easier. I've even thought of doing somewhere where you could pay to get rid of the adverts, but that's almost like selling something to people.

I don't want to seem like I'm trying to guilt or push people in to paying for it. If I did have 50 people who were willing to donate £2 because they wanted to I'd be more than happy to take the adverts off, infact I've already had somebody message me willing to donate. I really appreciate that, but I don't want only a few people to give me money because I'd feel bad for them.

These ad's might might not even bring any revenue in, but I have to give it a go :S

Come off it, Kev. No one expects you to be out of pocket for running this asylum. Bloody hell, mate, even if only a few can donate it's still that much of your own income saved. I wouldn't like you to make it a paid membership but surely with the number of active members 'we' have it is possible to rake up enough dosh to pay the hosting and registration costs?

I'm not quite sure how the ad revenue stream works, Kev. Do you only get cash if we click on these links? If so I suppose we should mind numbing though that might be.

You do a little bit for how many times they are displayed, then more for clicks.

I can't ask you just to go clicking them though, as it's against the rules.
