Re: Your England XI
Gordon not that affective for me. Too much Ole Ball to no real effect. Apart from Kane's miss we're as dangerous as sparklers in a box of fireworks. What happened to shooting? Have we actually had a shot at goals. Two thousand passes and nothing at the sharp end. Get Grealish on

Re: Your England XI
No one looking to do long shots.
Iceland did one and got their reward. We'd likely benefit from unsettling their defence with a couple of long shots.
Were trying to walk it in by doing nuanced passes. Pretty at times but this has got shades of Oxford United final about it. Poor show, few chances and frustrating all round.
We missed any right width until Trent came on. Not sure if that's deliberate or players drifting centrally.

Re: Your England XI
Very poor from an England side. Aimless possession and no real threat at all. Till he went off, Kane was our most constructive player. No point commenting on the rest of it, it was dire. Can't fault Iceland at all, they did a job on us.

Well that was terrible and deserved. Its a performance knowing everyone's on the plane not wanting to get injured. Deservedly booed off the pitch and memories of Euros opened up.

No bad thing to lose. The over pampered ‘superstars’ might be taking on some home truths. Or maybe not.

Re: Your England XI
It was memories of Oxford to a T. Sit back, defend and block and use long balls to runners. Mind, it would only work against pass the parcel sides like Bolton then, (sides who leave more open space at the back than the Sahara desert,) and England tonight. It was all so glaringly obvious that it's not worth insulting intelligence by discussing it. We sure won't be winning any Euros unless we make some drastic changes in game plans. Like Mr Dylan said, "The times they are a changing"

Re: Your England XI
It started me off wondering if the effort of qualifying was worth it.
I guess time will tell.

Never been a worse team to watch after they go 1-0 up.

Can't wait to hear about how it's "tournament football" and we're top. Horoscope bullshit.

Re: Your England XI
Crap. Gameplan is to have 9 defenders and hope 2 players can feck up, find themselves somehow in the opposition half and score us a goal

Re: Your England XI
The problem is that not unlike Bolton we spend years telling these players how good they are instead of properly hammering them that to succeed you have to want it and have to work. They are too soft. They aren’t hardened. They don’t want it enough. Southgate isn’t good enough. But all of this fundamentally comes back to this nonsense modern attitude. Watch the Wrexham documentary and Parky isn’t going in and soft soaping. He’s at them. Urging them to work harder tells it as it is.
These players have never been told.

Re: Your England XI
It's not about hard work they're getting sent out with the shackles on *and* they're terrified of making a mistake.
The Premier league footballer of the year shoved out on the left with nothing outside him, and a Hollywood right back behind. The whole thing doesn't fit, so we can't keep the ball. He's managing Phil Foden when all he wants is Stewart Downing.
We've got a generation of modern footballers who are technically and tactically excellent but we've got a manager who's making the whole country live through his own PTSD in fear of ever making a mistake.

Re: Your England XI
It’s mentality. The manager may be at fault but like Bolton the players are happy to hide. Where is the inspiration? The drive? And Southgate should be in their faces. But he will be telling them how good they are rather than telling them what absolute shits they are.Prufrock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:10 pmIt's not about hard work they're getting sent out with the shackles on *and* they're terrified of making a mistake.

Re: Your England XI
They're not absolute shits. They're set up to fail. It doesn't matter how good you are, if France had played Zidane at left back he'd have looked like a clogger. It's the sort of div who thought because Tim Ream didn't shit himself every time he got the ball we should try him in midfield. What can you do. As soon as they take half a step off anyone vaguely competent can keep the ball and we can't. Because square pegs are square pegs. You give Foden the ball wide on the left with nothing outside and no structure inside. Is he supposed to suddenly head down to the byline and throw crosses in? We've spent all this time and money catching up and then but Tony Pulis in an M&S rollneck in charge.
The feck* just come out and said "we haven't managed to replace Kalvin Phillips". Christ alive.

It's system. We have to do X, even though the game in front of us needs Y. Don't think for yourselves, play only to the player's spreadsheet strengths, regardless of what's actually happening, right in front of you. Can we kill it? And maybe yesterday?
