Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Pretty easy decision for most of us, and objectively Tottenham finishing 17th and having a better season than Arsenal is very funny.

(Hope you're doing well generally :D )
Hi Pru, you still living in north London? Trophy or not, I think I’d still take our season over theres (mainly because being there when we stuffed Real Madrid 3-0 will live in my mind forever). One Europa league cup does not paper up the cracks from their league position! Not looking forward to spending an evening with a smug spurs fan tonight though!
Yes though moved up to Crouch End after 11 years in Holloway, so I'm now in no mans land between Tottenham and the Emirates.

We all have to cope somehow with rivals winning, and they've certainly had more lows, but winning a trophy beats any second place in the world for me!
I do agree that trophies beat a second place in some ways, in that you remember the trophies won, you don’t remember second places. I’m consoling myself with the bigger picture though - they won a tournament we were too good to qualify for, it’s a bit like being jealous that they won the championship or similar (perhaps they will in a few years!) I’m not that envious of their ‘success’, more annoyed that I know plenty of unbearable spurs fans who suddenly think they are world beaters. I’d say looking forward to next season and seeing the bigger picture, Arsenal fans (if we sign a striker!) have way more reason to be excited and hopeful then spurs. Over the league campaign we experienced far more happiness over league wins, week in, week out and you can’t tell me that playing the likes of Bodo/Glimt in Europe is as exciting as playing Real Madrid!

You're convincing no-one, here, GG, if I zoom the lens out to wide angle, you won nowt.

If you get to 74 points, you'd have been 15 points away from top for quite a few of the last few seasons, which probably hasn't been a stellar points season.

As the team that finished second, you did beat this year's Spanish team that will finish second (albeit on a few more points than Arsenal)..

Always here to help!

Cheers for bursting my bubble Worthy! I’ll just go watch Declan Rices goals against Real Madrid for the 100th time and pretend it all eventually ended differently.

That, and cheer on the women who HAVE made the champions league final, even if they will get spanked by Barca this weekend.

Not football, but related. Don't care what teams you like or dislike, but can't have a parade without a car ramming into people and the world's a chunk fcuked up.

What's incredibly odd is that this seems - and nothing is yet proven - that it might be road rage. The feds were certainly quick to dampen the idea of terrorism, and from the shaky footage available it looks like the bloke picked entirely the wrong argument and the wrong method of having it.

Was certainly a strange one.

See your point, but following an ambulance in seems a bit pre- planned rather than spur of the moment? Just a thought... ae:)

England Women one up on Spain, lose 2-1. Just like watching Bolton. Own worst enemies giving the ball away. Way second best.

Thought our lot was second best virtually the whole game Tango. Never fails to amaze me how many foreign teams seem to have a sharp passing ability both the male and female teams lack.
Very disappointed in that shower last night.

Aye, that's the truth of it Hobes. Not in the same class. Disappointing to blue a 1-0 lead and lose.
Our passing was total amateur pub league level. :|

England got a good 3-1 tanking from Senegal tonight after being one up.(Harry Kane of course) Had a perfectly good goal disallowed by the ref to equalise at 2-2, but we were second best all round. Very poor show by England but our days of top dogs are history; not fast enough, skilled enough, brave or determined enough and claiming we're experimenting is just excuses. In short, we were rubbish. ae:)

We haven’t been top dogs since 1966. Not sure that those days can be described as ‘over’ more like ancient history.

All the Southgate out stuff looks a bit unwise now.

So unwise.

Not a pointless post season friendly. The pearls.

I mean the performance Saturday was one of the worst I can remember.

The football is awful. It was Southgate supposedly holding us back from being an exciting dynamic side yet it’s become more pedestrian and slower and duller since.

Doesn’t matter if we win the World Cup but I can’t see that happening tbh.

You don't remember very long. We lost (horrifically) 1-0 to Iceland three weeks before the last euros started and got to the final. We spent 15 years winning every qualifier and falling as soon as we meet anyone good. These games are meaningless (as long as you qualify, which we will).

International matches at this point in the year are pointless. Players are on their holidays and those that are put out on the pitch aren't guaranteed to give too much of a crap.

What really was the point in putting Kane out in these two fixtures? We'll learn nothing from playing him that we don't already know. 5 minutes for Tony doesn't really give us much chance to check out the replacements.

Kane's clearly the best striker we've had for quite some time, but there's bound to be diminishing returns and just like Southgate, it seems like we're doing what we can to keep him happy rather than looking at what options we do have.

So not only have England failed to perform in both matches, we've also learned nothing.

I'd be concerned about a post-Southgate dip, but we lost against Iceland and turned up. I'll chock this one up to that time of year.

Is it just me? I'm seriously concerned about the skill standards of the players further down the squad who should be playing their hearts out to move up the ranking.
Last night was garbage, like watching a bunch of kids who'd just met and turned out for a game, rubbish!

The frightening thing for me is how easy we are to score against. A thunderbolt Jackson header for Senegal (that was saved but deserved to score)was more powerful than any of our shots, and the space we gave them truly clownish against wingers faster than any of our defenders. A crackpot decision by the female ref/V.A.R was laughable as the ball hit a defender's back as he jumped with the goalie, but doesn't excuse the fact we were outclassed in both defence and attack.

Sadly, as good as Kyle Walker is, he's thirty five now and that's not a plus against teenage wanna-be Usain Bolts. Senegal claimed they didn't play their two best strikers, probably a good job for us. Don't matter how you cut it, we got a hiding. Possession might be nine-tenths of the law in a courtroom, but we weren't in one. Case dismissed.
