He should have good reason to feel hard done by either way you look at itcommunistworkethic wrote:number plucked from the air. His basic contact is worth about 12.5 million for the remaining term. 10million quid pay-off though. He can make a few omelettes with that...

Jewell wouldn't be my first pick (didn't vote for him in the "poll"), but he has had three campaigns in the Premiership and not been relegated in any of them.norm the jedi wrote:lets not go backwards as a club...

Paul Jewel
or any one of 37 candidates currently out of work because they were shite at there last or in some cases all their clubs...
There's a step forward worth taking.. straight into the darkness..
How would picking him be more of a step into "darkness" than picking someone who has no Premiership managerial experience?
Jewell's Premiership managerial record is P114, W34 D23 L57 - a 50/50 split between losing or getting something better. That record was across two teams (Bradford and Wigan), that most pundits would have said would be heading straight back down the season after being promoted. It is skewed slightly by the good season the Pies had first time around. His other two attempts culminated in 36 and 38 points which were enough for survival.

Just. Just. Obviously even then he had a better points average than LSL's current hit-rate, but it's hardly a glowing recommendation - especially the way the went into reverse after that upper-midtable season you mentioned.Worthy4England wrote:His other two attempts culminated in 36 and 38 points which were enough for survival.
(Not that you're suggesting we employ him, I hasten to add in your defence )
The thing with Jewell is though, didn't he leave Wigan due to relegation battles nearly sending him to an mental with stress? Can't imagine he'd jump at the chance to get into another one, or that we'd benefit from a manager teetering on the brink of insanity if things go wrong.
Plus, the way i read norms post was that he was suggesting that recruiting Jewell (or most other managers on our 'shortlist' wouldn't be a step into the dark, because we know he's got a good record of keeping teams into the divison and not much else, so we'd know pretty much what we're getting. Whereas with Lee he could turn out to be brilliant and get us in the top ten, or could die on his arse and send us down, hence being a huge step into the dark with big rewards and big risks. I think the punt on Lee is worth continuing partly because i believe that he'll come good and 6 games is nothing to judge a manager, and partly because if Jewell or whoever did come in and keep us up by the skin of their teeth, none of them have shown anywhere the ability to build on that and progress, whereas Lee may be able to build a future here at the club in the long term.
Not that this has anything to do with the thread, or hasn't been covered 20 times on the other board already, but meh.

Jewell claims that he left Wigan because he couldn't get the players he wanted to go there. He might be telling porkies but it's worth considering his side of things.Tombwfc wrote:The thing with Jewell is though, didn't he leave Wigan due to relegation battles nearly sending him to an mental with stress? You want Chelsea to pick up points to aid your title challenge?blurred wrote:Shame they had to do it before they played the Mancs - should be an easier home win for them, now. Could've done with Chelsea taking some points off 'em.

I'd have anyone take points off Man United, to be honest, home or away. Seeing our rivals (both positionally and locally) dropping points is always nice.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:You want Chelsea to pick up points to aid your title challenge?blurred wrote:Shame they had to do it before they played the Mancs - should be an easier home win for them, now. A nice boring (and preferably violent) 0-0 would've done me. This is now less likely if the club's in turmoil.

who's going to entertain us with their interviews now. no jewell with his best jumper - leather jacket combo, no mourinho and his eggs. just rafa with his clipped "we were playing midweek so are tired" shitness
this sounds familiar
According to a family friend, Mourinho has confirmed he is heading back to his homeland for a role with his country's football federation.
Mourinho will reportedly assume a job within the national setup, with the view to eventually becoming coach of the Portugal team.
The source also claims that Mourinho told the Chelsea players at the club's training ground on Thursday morning that he would be working with the national side within the next 48 hours.

Which took him 47 mins to do. Reports stated that after he left, the players were left standing gorped faced as to what the fxck he was waffling about.Batman wrote:According to a family friend, Mourinho has confirmed he is heading back to his homeland for a role with his country's football federation.

Caretaker manager appointed until Didier Deschamps can be persuaded to sup from the poisoned chalice. You heard it here first from the suave Lieutenant Bromhead!

Presumably Jamie, unlike Grant, isn't Jewish; due to Yom Kippur, Grant won't be able to work between sundown tonight and sunrise Sunday. Good job the game's not tomorrow, eh? I'm sure Mourinho's replacement would have had his religious views respected by the thousands of Chelsea fans who spend every game against Spurs making hissing noises.Batman wrote:With Mourinho gone, new boss Avram Grant is keen to bring Jamie Redknapp into his new management team.
