The photograph in the S*n (courtesy of WW) shows him with a bottle of Cristal Champagne in one hand and his arm wrapped around a microphone-wielding DJ. Apparently he 'rapped in African' according to a drinker.Bruce Rioja wrote:Why I shall come down there and fetch thee a clout.![]()
Maybe it's more to do with my loathing of the sensationalist way in which the Daily Mail reports..... well... anything. Weren't they also the loudest when the Legal Aid system provided Diouf with an interpreter?
I simply cannot sit in judgement on anything reported bu the Daily Mail. If it transpires that he was on the lash within 48 hours of a game then yes, that's unacceptable, but all we actually know from that report is that he was on licenced premises. You'll regularly find me on licenced premises drinking water.
African being a real language 'n' that.

I'm with BR here.
Frankie Worthington was regularly out the night before matches.
And let's not even get onto the likes of Tony Caldwell and Nicky Brookman.
And Brookman was ten times the player Diouf ever will be.(*)

Its what's missing with todays game, players going out getting w**kered and sh**ing the chairmans wife. Legendary p**s ups lasting 48 hours involving the main players in Rons Red Army, Sheringham in the dentists chair in Hong Kong, Gazza doing the doorstep Daz challenge. Frankie Worthington having a Ménage à trois the night before his medical for a transfer to Liverpool. Those were the days, those were the characters and that was part of the fun.
Where have all the characters gone?
Football was far more fun before money spoiled it.

I thought the morals of a players salary were neither here nor there. Whats changed?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:In the run-up to a game - yes. Did you not expect that of him when he played for us? You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Again, it's not a discussion I'd ever have in terms of 'morality'.
The question was about my personal expectations.

It's not going to be 'tacit' if I tell you, is it?Lord Kangana wrote:But you tacitly accept that there is a correlation between a players actions and his earnings as a professional?

A player is paid to be a professional (or, if you like, to abide by the terms of his contract), yes... you're having no more commitment from me than that.

anyone want to tell me what it ACTUALLY says in diouf's contract about drinking? Anyone want to tell me what club rules there ACTUALLY are on drinking at Sunderland? Anyone want to tell me what diouy ACTUALLY did that night?
It's my guess nobody can answer any let alone all these. In which case, why treat this with anything other than the usual Mail shite?

I've been to Sunderland... didn't look like there were rules on anything... Or much else to do other than drinking... diouf's kind of place, nice to see him adjusting to local culture... At last he's found a town that talks 'african' - I think...communistworkethic wrote:anyone want to tell me what it ACTUALLY says in diouf's contract about drinking? Bloke had some sense to drink in Newcastle, not Sunderland. It was Obafemi Martins' birthday.William the White wrote:I've been to Sunderland... didn't look like there were rules on anything... I think the reason why EHD was singled out was because he was the only one drinking apparently. Cissé and Chimbonda sat in the corner all night and didn't drink. I don't believe that for one second like.
I don't see the problem, myself.
