Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Am I just being overly cynical, or does that reek of self-interest? It's got feck all to do with Phil Brown, or Pompey if their players are sent home, it's up to the authorities in Africa to decide.

I'm sure its the kind of thing Allardyce would have done when he was here. Can hardly blame 'em. Though obviously its taking advantage of a tragedy. And who knows how club insurers are reacting to whats happened, player values are probably null and void if they stay in the country, which'll have a few arse's twitching.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Hmm I dunno, I wouldn't put it past Browny to try to use whatever possible to his advantage, but I'm not sure that's really his primary motivation. We must remember that whilst the players in the main to us are assets, commodities traded at a value, the likes of Brown work with them every day, they are human beings to them, their work mates. This is mental, and genuine concern I think would be most peoples main emotion. It's truly horrific when sport gets dragged into things like this. I think Adebayor is a bell-end of the highest order, but they had pics on FF of him breaking down in tears and the other players, and it brought a tear to my eye. It's tragic.Tombwfc wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8449787.stm

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

A lot of over reaction here methinks.
Terrorists have tried to mess up sporting events before - from Munich 72 onwards.
Basic rule is the show must go on, whatever the tragedy.
This attack took place in an (oil rich) enclave not connected to the main part of Angola, and hundreds of miles from the capital.
Move the games on to the mainland, ideally to the capital, and get on with it.
Utterly understandable that Togo do not want to play - but the rest have to.
Otherwise if you follow precedent you have the scenario, for example that a repeat of the 7/7 bombings in London would stop the whole Olympics.
And yes, it is despicable that the news is slanted to the PL players.
