Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

His foot's there coz it's just bounced up off the ball, that he won. Not at any reckless speed either. Linesman two yards away gave a throw-in.
Valencia is a tart.

I don't doubt that he is, but I think it takes a suspiciously one-eyed Englishman to claim that that's the result of a good tackle.Prufrock wrote:His foot's there coz it's just bounced up off the ball, that he won. Not at any reckless speed either. Linesman two yards away gave a throw-in.

I don't think there should be anything wrong with it. He got the ball, and we wasn't traveling at a daft speed.
I do accept that the way things are now it probably wasn't a 'good tackle'. His foot was off the floor (though not 'over' the ball until it bounced off it) and he did catch Valencia afterwards. As I say, I think it's sad, but I think the ref was right to give the free-kick. Never a red card though, even now, IMO. No way was that 'excessive force'.

Re: Tonight's Football
Got the ball first, foot bounced up off the ball, hardly reckless, hardly dangerous, not even a foul in my book.
A good tackle for me. But I accept some might interpret the accidental raising of the foot to be a bit reckless. So a foul. A freekick at the absolute most.
A yellow would have been ridiculous.
A red.....

Re: Tonight's Football
Personally, i would have sent him off for that. Without the benefit of a slo mo replay, it looked terrible. A stupid tackle that could have ended either his own, or Valencia's world cup.
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Re: Tonight's Football
You're all wusses. It was a nothing tackle. That wasn't deserving of a foul, let alone a card .... & the only red should have gone to the Stretford wimp. He reacted like a 3 year old.

Re: Tonight's Football
Foul or not (& personally I think it was) it should, at the very least, remind players that diving in at this level can often result in your world cup being over a bit sooner than you'd like

+1, some people I knew thought that Sterling should be banned .bobo the clown wrote:You're all wusses. It was a nothing tackle. That wasn't deserving of a foul, let alone a card .... & the only red should have gone to the Stretford wimp. He reacted like a 3 year old.

and me too - didn't seem like an instant red card to me at all... I think the ref got a bit carried away.Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes well, that's what you think.BWFC_Insane wrote:Got the ball first, foot bounced up off the ball, hardly reckless, hardly dangerous, not even a foul in my book.

From the way he flourished the red card, all bizarrely Hitleresque, I'd agree. Like he suddenly thought "hey ... this is all about me now".thebish wrote: .... and me too - didn't seem like an instant red card to me at all... I think the ref got a bit carried away.

What about me? What about me?
I think it was bollocks too, but I don't blame the ref for giving the foul (though defo do blame him for giving the red card) as I think sadly that's where we are now.
Can I be in your gang ?

Re: Tonight's Football
If England make stupid "fair" tackles like that next week we'll get red cards then too... and we'll all think it was very unfair.

Re: Tonight's Football
Sad performance by Brazil against Serbia. The dissallowed goal should have stood, but anyway they were very poor and Serbia deserved more. I guess they were saving themselves for the opening game against Croatia.
