But the club's urgency to file the necessary paperwork before the deadline was hampered by a technical problem.

So they can spend £8m on the guy but can't invest £100 in a fax machine to get the details across to the PL in time - every year?

Or do they still work to the Julian calendar in North London?

Saggy faced, cheating nice person.

Shameful.

It's funny how his fax machine / PC works fine for 364 days of the year isnt it...really needs to get that looked at, these technical problems will cause them to miss out on an important transfer deadline one of these days if they're not careful.

I take it they got away with it again. Why don't they just have a different date for the spurs transfer period.

Not really Spurs' fault. It'd the Premier League / FA for being a set of spineless cretins. They should say "Any deals not finalised by 6 (including medicals, contracts and registration) will not be accepted. Regardless of clerical / administrative errors. Delayed flights and any other unforeseen circumstance"

But they don't.. They think, 'Ooh Van der Vaart. He's good 'im. He'll look great on our brochure for selling TV rights to overseas buyers'

What I don't get is that this is a FIFA thing

So why is deadline 6 (or when bent fcuking twitch is ready) in England, 12 in Scotland

Because at 6 they can tell the small clubs to feck off in England. The Scots aren't that way inclined.

Or we just added a day due to August bank holiday.

Scotlands finished at 11:59 on the 31st Aug. Day before ours. They didn't have the Bank Holiday

having two windows is a FIFA mandate,

but the detail is managed by the national football associations...

back in 2008, for instance, scotland extended their window to february 2nd so that it ended on a working day.

for some reason the english FA like 6pm and the scottish FA like 12pm - merely a bit of local decision making under a more global FIFA mandate.

wiki says this..
According to the rules, each national football association decides on the registration periods used in that association. FIFA mandates two registration periods. The first registration periods starts at the end of the season and may not exceed 12 weeks. The second registration period occurs during the season and may not exceed 4 weeks.

Can't they just e-mail the details over? Faxes are so 90s.

you'd think it was fairly easy to scan and email PDFs that also contained signatures as accurately as a fax machine... wouldn't you?

maybe they do - but journos are stuck using the word FAX as their default word for sending documents to the FA??

Plus, Gartside saying "I have a PDF file saved onto my Windows 2008 desktop via an e-mail, stating that [insert player] is going to sign" doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

not really "summer" - but probably not worth it's own thread...

but - a lot of smoke about Owen going to Villa in January... Michael has some questions...
The 30-year-old, who has not started a Premier League or Champions League match since January, admitted: "You can only do your best and prepare and train well, so that you're ready when the manager calls on you. After that, it's up to the manager who he chooses.

"It sounds easy, but probably the most difficult thing is not playing for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden getting called up and being mentally and physically right to perform well.

"At the end of the season, I'll look and think, 'Was I happy with the amount of games I was available for? Did I score enough goals in the games when I played?' and 'Did I play well enough in those games?'

err... let me try... No, No and No??

In fairness to Owen, he bagged a hat-trick in Wolfsburg then didn't get a single minute for the next four games. He mustve been fuming. But he seemingly kept his head down and got on with things

BBC have Bent on the verge of going to Villa, whereas Steven Pienaar has just tweeted that he is Spurs bound.

Bent 24m? I thought that transfer fees were slowly starting to come down. I would have been surprised if Man City had paid that much for him but Villa?
