Re: Tonight's Football
I would have to go against you their, personally I think if you as a defender win the ball first then it does not matter if you take out the player afterwards, if you win the ball then that says you only had eyes for the ball and not the player and therefore you did not intently go into the player afterwards and therefore I do not think Callum's challenge is a foul. Basically what I am saying is that we should go back to the rules from the 2001-2002 Premiership season when a foul would only be given if the defensive player did not get the ball.Athers wrote:Quite simply it's about tackling safely. Making a tackle with bad intentions is obviously not safe, but so is making one with poor technique that vastly increases the chances of causing injury.
I don't think anyone would enjoy seeing McManaman run out for the FA cup final, to prevent it would require an 11 game ban.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Or similar to Jonny Evans on Stuart Holden?mrkint wrote:Yeah. It's recklessness rather than malicious. I guess it would be similar to the Eduardo incident? Though obviously that had worse consequences for the poor fecker on the end of it.
It is the type of tackle that if it was one of our players we would say accidental but against our player then fecking horrendous. Either way deserved the red card and I hope the injury is not too bad.

Re: Tonight's Football
It was a poor tackle and ill judged. He deserves the 3 match ban coming his way. Nowt more. Certainly not the death threats he's been getting from Newcastle fans.
Had he been shown a straight red at the time, nobody would be talking about extra punishments like they have been doing.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Indeed. His refereeing style has nothing to do with him constantly getting big decisions wrong. I like the guy, he's just a shit referee!boltonboris wrote:Which is great.. Except he misses key incidents consistently.BWFC_Insane wrote:Hmmm it was a "bad miss".Prufrock wrote:Mark Halsey, bless him, really is a wank referee. Stroke of genius getting him to train with us!
But I quite like Halsey's style as a ref, he tries to give players the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't go round waving yellows and reds and tries to let the game flow.
Doesn't always work in his favour, but I think we're so conditioned now to seeing a ref give a yellow for virtually owt, and not thinking twice about sending players off, that Halsey gets criticised for letting stuff go.
Personally I'd rather a few more like Halsey than loads Mike Deans for example.
Oh and the challenge, as bad as it was, I'm still not convinced it was totally intentional.......perhaps I'm a bit naive.....

McManaman clearly didn't mean it. It was a bad 'un, and he should have been sent off, because it was clearly reckless and dangerous but there's no way there was malice. The big game ones should be saved for the likes of Thatcher's deliberate manic eyed elbow, or Roy Keane's on Haaland. McManaman should get three.
And, apparently as he went off he was upset, knew he'd hurt the lad pretty badly and he gets that wanker in his face. I thought, and hoped, Caldwell was going to chin him.

Probably shouldn't go here but I didn't think it warranted a new thread.
Lee Johnson appointed Oldham manager.

Is it an inspired choice or reckless to appoint a 31 year old as manager who has no previous experience? He has never even played for the club so he isn't even a fans favourite choice.Lee Johnson has become the youngest manager in the Football League after being appointed by League One strugglers Oldham Athletic.
The 31-year-old, who has signed a two-year contract, is nine months younger than MK Dons boss Karl Robinson.
Johnson, who beat 120 other applicants to land the role, made his name as a player at Yeovil, helping the Glovers into the Football League in 2003 and then winning the League Two title two years later.
Should be an interesting game. I can't remember too many managers who have come up against their sons team.Johnson, the son of Yeovil boss Gary, is due to come up against his father's team at Boundary Park on 16 April.

Re: Tonight's Football
Can't put my finger on why, but I'm quite enjoying listening to Palace being two down against Birmingham.
My neighbour invited me along tonight, but as I'm going to Charlton tomorrow I knocked him back. Shame, because I could have really naused him off.

I'm going to the pub shortly, but I so want to be outside when the 'Eagle' gets home.
I really should have gone, four nil down to Birmingham!

Re: Tonight's Football
Darren Ambrose on for Birmingham. Wonder if Kevin Davies will get a run out against us next term.

Re: Tonight's Football
Loving Millwall holding Leicester thus far too, this division really does keep the interest.

With Brighton playing Forest tomorrow this could be a season-defining weekend

I think it's very possible challenge for the ball with excessive force (language which means a red card) or dangerous technique (my own language) - either because you're intending to cause injury or you just don't consider safety when you go in.bwfcdan94 wrote:I would have to go against you their, personally I think if you as a defender win the ball first then it does not matter if you take out the player afterwards, if you win the ball then that says you only had eyes for the ball and not the player and therefore you did not intently go into the player afterwards and therefore I do not think Callum's challenge is a foul. to be honest we need to let Forest run on & haul Brighton & Leicester in.Salford Trotter wrote:With Brighton playing Forest tomorrow this could be a season-defining weekend
A draw would be 'OK', but I think the above would give us a better chase.

The way things have gone since 9th February, I'm tempted to put a tenner on us for the title!!
When I say tempted, I mean there's no f*cking chance.
