Liverpool laughing stocks?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Struggle to think of anyone better in the PL from when he joined in January, and he's continued his form in the Copa, too. It's a little early to be talking about £60m bracket, but he was fantastic for us last season and looks a cracking player.

Going on the Premier League stats for goals/assists. No idea what they do/don't count.

If they again fail to get a Euro spot this timen they are fecked. Indeed, with their spending & plans, that HAS to be a Chumps League place.

Should that occur the first round is on me.

The gloryhunting carrot cruncher will no doubt tell me this is shite, but heyho

As John W Henry, the club's principal owner, said recently: "The worst surprise [following FSG's takeover last October] was the lack of depth in the squad. Our biggest concern in taking on this responsibility was this issue and it was a bigger issue than we feared. There was a huge multi-year payroll for a squad that had very little quality depth."

The free signings Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic, for example, earn £100,000 and £120,000 a week at Liverpool respectively, although the latter's astonishing salary includes a signing-on fee payable over the first 12 months of his contract

No, that's not shite - you always pay free transfers more than you do players that you've bought, precisely because you're saving money on transfer fees. That's the whole point of how the Bosman rule's been used for ages. Which is why I was so sceptical of Joe Cole's move around this time last year when everyone was proclaiming it as a bargain and a brilliant move.

As to whether the figures are right my guess is that they're likely to be inflated, because players' wages are always inflated in the media. I don't know why they've decided to include Jovanovic's signing on fee in his monthly wage (all players have signing on fees, typically paid over a period of time). I'd imagine Jovanovic to be on a much lower basic wage than Cole (and I bet the latter's signing on fee isn't taken into account in that £100k figure quoted above, either). Either do both or neither, because that doesn't make for a fair comparison of their respective costs.
