I'm sure he meant this as a positive gesture.Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says he would be happy to let former striker Robbie Fowler score for Cardiff when the sides meet in the Carling Cup at Anfield on Wednesday.
Benitez said: "Maybe we can leave him to score a fantastic goal in front of the Kop, but at the end of the game, if we have scored three."
In fact it makes hiim appear a condecending, smug prick.
I hope the wheels come off.
Did I say "prick" ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Wouldn't have said that sounded condescending at all, really. He doesn't begrudge him scoring a goal, so long as Liverpool win. Any manager would say the same about a local hero returning to their club. Would you have preferred him to say 'Actually, I couldn't give a shite about Fowler, he was shite when he was here, and we're gonna batter these thuggish, sheep-shagging nice people'?

Shush, youDave Sutton's barnet wrote:Er, don't you wear red tops?blurred wrote:Rafa in danger of losing his job? What a load of shite. If you believe the red tops then you need your bumps felt.

If you ask Gillet or Hicks, though, I'm sure they're red jerseys, or uniform or red apparel or something equally horrible.

Actually, I'd prefer him to keep his mouth shut and get himself on the internet looking for cheap one-way flights back to Spain.blurred wrote:Would you have preferred him to say 'Actually, I couldn't give a shite about Fowler, he was shite when he was here, and we're gonna batter these thuggish, sheep-shagging tw*ts'?

It doesn't sound condescending to you to hear a manager suggest they will outplay their opponents so much that he will then allow his team to LET an opponent score ??blurred wrote:Wouldn't have said that sounded condescending at all, really. Are you barking ??
If he'd said " ... he's a good player & been a great servant to us & if he scores I'm sure it will be a great moment for him and I'm sure even our fans won't begrudge him that." THAT would be reasonable.
Just "... if we're 3 up we'll LET him score one".
I bet he's impressed.
I'm sure I did say "prick" !!

Yes, a side that starts with such luminaries as Itandje, Hobbs, Leto and El Zhar is obviously our first choice oneBatman wrote:

Rafa concentrating on the league cup

And Gerrard might have been playing because he is one of our two fit central midfielders at the moment, seeing as Alonso's out with a broken foot, Sissoko's ill, and Mascherano is likewise injured (came on for the last 3 minutes last night).

We've got a promising young midfielder, Woody Guthrie, you should borrow him...blurred wrote:Gerrard might have been playing because he is one of our two fit central midfielders at the moment, seeing as Alonso's out with a broken foot, Sissoko's ill, and Mascherano is likewise injured (came on for the last 3 minutes last night).

Some reading for Liverpool fans everywhere... barring the odd factual inaccuracy, that is.

First one convinced me to go no further50 Hell’s angels, February 26, 2002
There was plenty of apprehension for any British fans going to Istanbul in the early years of this decade. After all, two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death in 2000 before playing Galatasaray and the locals’ ‘Welcome to Hell’ banners had sent shivers down Manchester United spines. However, Liverpool’s visit to Gala in the second Champions League group was different. The visiting fans’ approach was summed up with a banner; “Welcome to hell my arse. If you think this is hell, try the Grafton on a Friday night.”
The Grafton is a nightclub, famous for ‘grab-a-granny’ nights, where innocent young scallies find themselves at the mercy of predatory Liverpool divorcees. But the attitude was perfect: no fear, no aggressive confrontation and a slice of humour. It sums up the best attributes of the modern Liverpool fan. And, since then, every time the Reds have played in Istanbul, the local supporters have joined their party. And this is the essence of this list. The culture of football is about more than players and managers – in ten years, most of them will have moved on. It exists and grows through the supporters as much as the team.
Cos the Turks knew what the banner meant?
My arse they did
First experience of the loveable scousers was before you were born and mummy and daddy were crunching carrots
They weren't nice then and I've not had reason to change my mind since

Numbers 25-1.
Perhaps you'll enjoy this one a bit more, CAPSLOCK, as both Heysel and Hillsborough are mentioned. Along with Liverpool losing the title on the last day.
