Get to feck! Average my arse. Had a poor game but far from average.BWFC_Insane wrote:Credit to Hodgson for taking Wilshere off who has been absolutely abysmal tonight. Personally don't see all the fuss over him. Very average in my view.

Townsend describes England as 'clueless'. Takes one to know one eh Andy?

It's much like one of those excruciating group stage games we get to see every other summer.

Watching other international sides and they have midfield players that offer a lot more. Is all I'm saying.ChrisC wrote:Get to feck! Average my arse. He's not ever going to be as good as Gerrard IMO. And Gerrard was never really excelled at this level.
Re: Tonight's Football
Kyle Walker - another England full back who looks good going forward.
But is defensively clueless.

I wouldn't say he looks great going forwards either. He's good at running in a straight line quite fast though!bw@bw wrote:Kyle Walker - another England full back who looks good going forward.

Re: Tonight's Football
He is just coming back from a long spell out with injury. When Jack was in full flight and playing week in week out he was one of the top midfielders about. I remember him going to Barca a season or so back and being the best player on the pitch commanding the midfield in the company of Xavi, Iniesta etc.. He got man of the match in that game. That is not something that is achieved by an "average" player.BWFC_Insane wrote:Watching other international sides and they have midfield players that offer a lot more. Re: Tonight's Football
Has Ashley Young actually hit a pass to an England player yet.
We need to keep the ball.
So he hits the first man every time without fail

Re: Tonight's Football
Defence had to work far too hard tonight, maily due to the front men not being able to keep hold of the ball. Must say the ref was letting a lot of clogger challenges go from them; as soon as an England player get the ball run into him at speed, but Gerard and Lampard weren't able to get forward and be effective much because of it.
Their front and wide men looked far more dangerous than ours and swapping Young for Wilshire was a bad move for me. Wilshire's one of the few keen to take men on. They closed us down well anywhere outside the box and we still have a tendency to pass long to men tightly marked and give the ball away. Our posession second half was hardly impressive. Ashley Cole wastes more time and possession with throws than anyone I know. We're the ones in the red shirts mate!.
Apart from Gerard , did we have a strike at goal? By no means a disaster result but a win would have made it feel more comfortable. This group is hardly the football elite. Far better than a loss but not overly impressive.

Re: Tonight's Football
How can ITV still be prattling on about this?
I can't wait for the highlights. Only 30 mins to wait. Woohoo!!

Re: Tonight's Football
Don't see the fuss myself. Exactly what Roy would have wanted. We're a top 8-16 side, we aren't going to blow these sides away. Thought Cahill was immense and Jagielka (who I'm not a massive fan of) not far behind. Lambert wasn't great and our Jack had a shocker. Average though! Behave. Lampard and Gerrard were and are good players, but Wilshere's the best 'footballer' we've had I can remember seing. A lot of the time it's like watching Youri when he first joined us. Gives it to an average colleague in less than acres of space, and then looks surprised as they lose it. Lampard is the only other f*cker who even looks round before asking for it!
Despite that, I remember one free header and a, ahem, defo not a penalty honest, we're only a minute it.
#rearguardaction fnarr.

Re: Tonight's Football
It was 90 minutes of stopping them winning. Job done. Of course, had they played like performing seals tonight, lost, and go on to fail to qualify for Brazil 14 then every one will look back in years to come and say "Hey, we might not have got there, but did you see those keepy-uppys and dinky triangles that night in Kiev?".BWFC_Insane wrote:Yep it was 90 minutes of absolute bilge.thebish wrote:got home - saw the last ten mins - was the rest of it such utter garbage??? mindless hoofing upfield to nobody... just like watching Bolton!!

Re: Tonight's Football
I grant that they got the result they went for. Frankly I'm not massively interested in England's results any more. If they qualify then great it gives us some more disappointing games over the summer to watch.Bruce Rioja wrote:It was 90 minutes of stopping them winning. Job done. But Ukraine were awful. And we were just as bad. We weren't holding a team that stretched us to our limits. It was an absolutely dreary and dull game.
In terms of the result if you are a real England fan then great stuff. It was still absolute bilge.
