Re: Tonight's Football
Thing is, we'd gave played exactly the same way if that game had been a quarter final. Except it would've gone on to penalties. And we'd have lost.
Still, at least Lampard got his century which was the most important thing.

I noticed your earlier comments about how static we were, and we were. However, what would your England side have been and in what formation would you have played them? Please bear in mind here that last night's goal was not to lose.BWFC_Insane wrote:I grant that they got the result they went for. Frankly I'm not massively interested in England's results any more. Of course, had they played like performing seals tonight, lost, and go on to fail to qualify for Brazil 14 then every one will look back in years to come and say "Hey, we might not have got there, but did you see those keepy-uppys and dinky triangles that night in Kiev?".BWFC_Insane wrote:Yep it was 90 minutes of absolute bilge.thebish wrote:got home - saw the last ten mins - was the rest of it such utter garbage??? mindless hoofing upfield to nobody... just like watching Bolton!!
But Ukraine were awful. And we were just as bad. We weren't holding a team that stretched us to our limits. It was an absolutely dreary and dull game.
In terms of the result if you are a real England fan then great stuff. It was still absolute bilge.

Re: Tonight's Football
Good result, that.
We were shit. But we had a shit team, in part due to injuries, lack of fitness and also that we don't have a strong squad.
Still a good point, though.
However, Kyle Walker must never step on a football field again.

Oh just to be clear, I'm not blaming Hodgson. He doesn't have the players to pick. Like previous England managers.Bruce Rioja wrote:I noticed your earlier comments about how static we were, and we were. We're stuck with 3 one paced midfield players who all broadly offer the same things. I don't think there was anything he could do to change it.
We just aren't very good.

Have to agree there, every time I've seen him this season for England and Spurs he's been poor.mrkint wrote:Good result, that.

Might I also single out Ashley Young for a little criticism here too. Every time it came to him his first touch was his last. Absolutely dreadful.Beefheart wrote:Have to agree there, every time I've seen him this season for England and Spurs he's been poor.mrkint wrote:Good result, that.

As if nobody has criticised Walcott yet. Useless player.. Should have been a runner. Not progressed as a player at all in the time he has been at Arsenal.

That's the boy. The one who won man of the match today. Who, along with 3 other ex wanderers and an ex Bolton manager really ground out an away draw without a fit striker in their squad. Nobby Nolan also had to 'fit in' at center half, following an injury to the regular CB. He played the position far better than anyone we currently have, and put in a 'captain's performance. Speaking of which; there was a nice piece about him in the Sunday Times today. He commented how he learnt the 'captain' role from a couple of blokes called Hierro and Campo. Just mentioning this brings tears to my eyes. Just how far have we fallen?

That's him. Hang on, I never said "never that good anyway", you scamp.Prufrock wrote:That'll be the dodgy, past it, never that good anyway, goes to ground too early, yellowbelly Finn would it?

Anyway, I'll stand by my accusations (I'll come clean I don't need no vice etc...) but it begs the question, as a shot-stopper how come he's somehow back to his best?

he was never off it - it's just that the incumbent keeper at Bolton is always shoite - it's the number 2 who is ace!Bruce Rioja wrote:That's him. Re: Tonight's Football
Nonsense, Bish. Jaaskelainen had become an absolute liability. Yet at West Ham he seems something of a revelation. The common denominator being Allardyce, of course. Hmmmm.thebish wrote:he was never off it - it's just that the incumbent keeper at Bolton is always shoite - it's the number 2 who is ace!Bruce Rioja wrote:That's him. Re: Tonight's Football
not really sure how a manager makes a goalie good or not good...
either way - seems those 'appy 'ammers are not dreadfully 'appy - which is always a good thing in my book!
Bogdan out! Lonergan in!!

drifting off topic a bit... twas often said that Coyle went because he refused the ultimatum or summat that he had to have a wise-man drafted in alongside him...
given that dougie has made such a charlie of our defense - is it not time he was offered a similar ultimatum - accept a defensive coach - or bugger off?
