Scotlands Hopes

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Now now Caps, you're confusing us with England. We do it one time and it's remembered forever, you do it every tournament.

FWIW, I wish scottishlad and his ilk would stfu. We've got two very tough games still to go, and we need 4 points, or 3 if we beat Itlay. Georgia gave us a massive scare at Hampden, it will be far from an easy game, and then we face an Italian side that will also need to win.

We've done superbly, and are topping a group containing the world cup finalists, but a miss is as good as a mile, and we're not there yet.

They have a genuine chip on their shoulder. They "hate" the English. Why? I'd go as far to say that Scotland has some incredibly racist people living there, yet they are accepted.

Its fine to sing anti-English songs.

However, it isn't fine in England to sing anti-Scottish songs.

This is by no means a reflection of all Scottish people, but my experiences with Scots have not been entirely pleasant.
Really? Check out this forum for a start. Do a search for Jocks, sweatys, Scottish Pub League. You don't see that being reciprocated. When England play, yes indeed - GIRUY, but when it's over we don't carry on on a daily basis, meanwhile many in England have (let's be generous here) a patronising attitude to Scotland and all things Scottish.

Poppycock.
That is a much a sweeping statement as the "Jocks, sweatys, Scottish Pub League" stuff.

If you genuinely believe that the (for want of a better word) hatred that exists between the Scots and the English isn't a two way street then you need your bumps feeling.

Scottish pub league is a joke. Its not a racist slur. Of course some English people (a lot actually) are racist and some of that is directed to the Scots. But I've been in Scotland during world cups etc and the hatred of the English is to be honest scary. When Scotland play I support them. Actually prefer watching them sometimes to England.

I'm not particularly nationalistic so don't go in for the whole face painting flag waving stuff. But for Scottish people to attack English fans in Scotland during the world cup is almost unbelieveable (and the police had to warn English people in Scotland NOT to wear England shirts or have English flags). I really can't imagine someone with a Scotland shirt being attacked in England, simply because they wore a shirt.

I want Scotland to lose, but only because they want us to. Yet I don't hate the Scots. I've worked up there for a couple of extended periods and had a great time. The people in Fife were the salt of the earth. As far as software development goes, they were far more competent than their English counterparts, particularly the ones down south.

As DSB says, you can annoy the Scot's by supporting them, because what you're doing is absorbing the the whole country. They aren't Scottish anymore, they're British. Then when they lose, they go back to bring Scottish.

Aye, but he was detested by the Glasgow press because he sounded English. Even when captaining Scotland. Sorry FS but for some folks bigoted intolerance is a way of life.

BTW, using the phrase "I think you'll find" to start a sentence couldn't be more patronising. Obviously this wasn't your intention because as you say the Scots never patronise the English do they?

I got shouted at a coupla years back for singing along with the Irish at Murrayfield in a Scotland v Ireland game. The Ireland team is drawn from both the North and South of the country. I sang along with em because at least 3/4 of me is Irish (and I might have had a coupla beers too) even though I was born in, and support England.

Got called a rebel, unpatriotic and a lot worse in a serious (i.e. not a bit of banter) way - was quite surprised to see it at a rugby match....they Scots should look at sport for what it is - Non-political entertainment (at least that's how I view it).

Anyhow Ireland won so last laugh was with me.

I have a lot of time for Scotland and the people I've always found very friendly. I go there a lot for short breaks. Just when you get more than 100 of em in the same place with lots of beer that things seem to go awry wrt to the English.....

Cool - did you turn up the collar of your leather jacket and light a cigarette with a Zippo?

See, they'd hate that trivialisation.

Not at all, quite frankly the English, by and large, could give a shiny shit about Scotland, or the other Home Nations, other then they'd probably wish them well in whatever comp, at worst pay an interest. The Scots however, always want England to lose, see the emails circulating afer the rugby team lost to South Africa - didn't see the opposite happen when Scotland lost.

But it's the Scots' anti-English stance which has bred thes antipathy from the English, your constant harping about want your only 2 competitive teams playing in the EPL, your desire for independance as a nation without losing our input to your economy (and don't try and some the N Sea Oil argument, it was English money that paid to discover it and get it our of the ground)

No, Scotland has become a bitter little region that's attitude towards England is actually it's biggest problem.

Didnt see any emails, don't give a shiny shit about Rugby.

Well, we'll gloss over the only 2 teams bit. You'll find that yes the majority of football supporters want the Old Firm to play in England, we're sick of their bollocks and would be quite happy if they pissed off for good.
communistworkethic wrote:your desire for independance as a nation without losing our input to your economy (and don't try and some the N Sea Oil argument, it was English money that paid to discover it and get it our of the ground)
American money in the large part you'll find. And when we say independent, that's what we mean, don;t know where you get your idea that we would require financial assistance from England, or that that has ever been a policy point?

During the last world cup English people in Scotland were beaten up for wearing England shirts or having an English flag.

The police warned people not to wear England shirts in Scotland.

The Scottish have an obsession with the English.

We SHOULD be one country. Yet Scotland wants to divide.

FFS next we'll be having "The Peoples Republic of Merseyside".
