Just out of interest, DSB, are you still happy with your tip for O'Neill's Villa to finish above Hughes' City for 5 internet credits? Think City are pretty sorted top end, but they need serious work at the back, whereas Villa are yet to enter the market in anger, aside from losing their captain and best defender. I reckon t'will be close, and a lot will depend on how patient Mr Sheik is, and how well Hughes copes with big squads, big egos, and not that many games to play everyone in. I'd be worried if I were an Arsenal fan, mainly coz I'd be a prick, but also for football reasons.

See that's from assuming that a bunch of individuals, rather than a team, will automatically take the world apart.malcd1 wrote:The local news interviewed a City fan at the City of Manchester Stadium this afternoon.
According to him, Manchester United will be nowhere this season. It will be a straight fight between City and Chelsea for the title.![]()

I've Manchester City down to finish 5th. With mourinho in charge, higher. Hughes can't do it, i think. And i'm surprised he's still there.Prufrock wrote:Just out of interest, DSB, are you still happy with your tip for O'Neill's Villa to finish above Hughes' City for 5 internet credits? Potentially thier TWO best defenders.
I think there's the potential for an exciting 'The ChampionshipTM' esque who can be the least bad title race. United are weaker, Ancelotti WILL fail at Chelsea, Scousers are treading water and Arsenal don't seem to have the pennies (Wenger is astute enough to know a CM of Fabregas and Denilson/Diaby ain't good enough). City, Everton and Villa all look like they could break into the top four.
City are interesting. I do think Hughes can get them there, depending on if he's left to do it. Bellamy, Bridge, Barry and Santa Cruz are all clearly his own signing, and I reckon Tevez too. The Arabs seem to have the nous to leave the football to the football people aside from one big name (avoiding the ghastly term 'marquee signing').
My own feeling is 2009-10 from an English football perspective will have a lot to do with a bloke born in Croxteth as Wayne Mark Rooney.

As is my feeling too, if Rooney can start firing consistently, Yonited will retain the title. Other than him, I can't see too many goals, but they're still good enough to win it Chelsea style with the odd goal wins away from home. There weren't just about RonaldoPrufrock wrote:

Tevez, Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Robinho, Adebayor.
Every single one of which has had some kind of issues, either throwing strops because he's not in the team, generally being a cock, near enough going on strike, flying back to Brazil when he wants or fighting with a team-mate.
You can't say it won't be interesting.

Santa must be ever so excited. Wonder if Robinho is on his way out. It is only 12 months since City were drooling over Jo being their next saviour, it truly is amazing how fast things can change. Do get the feeling though that there are going to be some huge ego problems coming up for City, and quite early on.

I don't think Man City will be challenging for the top 4 yet, they have pretty much a new starting XI and thus they have to gel all these new names and make a team out of them. Also, if they don't get results straight away Hughes will be in shaky ground, which won't help. (I think they need a better manager, but changing horses in the middle of a race usually doesn't end well).
Sure is make or break for Hughes between now and the next window, Gone after 10 if results ain't coming in is my opinion.William the White wrote:I've Manchester City down to finish 5th. Well you never know the only thing to deal with players and big egos is a manager with an even bigger one! Watch this space!seanworth wrote:Santa must be ever so excited. Indeed, that's why Chelsea didn't really start to fire until they brought Mourinho in.hoboh2o wrote:Well you never know the only thing to deal with players and big egos is a manager with an even bigger one! True enough, although they finished second under Ranieri. Thing is, I rather doubt Mourinho would move in the middle of a season - he's still more into his "projects".Village_Idiot2 wrote:Indeed, that's why Chelsea didn't really start to fire until they brought Mourinho in.hoboh2o wrote:Well you never know the only thing to deal with players and big egos is a manager with an even bigger one! A more likely target is yer jovial Dutchman who reminded Chelsea how to do their jobs last year. Russia's qualification campaign could be worked around... if the oligarchs are happy.
But aren't Hiddink and Abrom friends, and even he couldn't get him to stay on. I am sure they have their sights on Mourinho.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:True enough, although they finished second under Ranieri.
