Been ok but can't see where many goals are coming from in this side. All a bit predictable and for me we have to get Vardy and Sturridge on somehow.
Sterling is beyond bad....

Team has to be the one that finished apart from Lalana for Rashford. Won't get away with that midfield against better teams but need to go for it against Slovakia.throwawayboltonian wrote:If Sterling starts next game Hodgson should go after the tournament, regardless of performance throughout. He has no place being in or near the squad with current club and country form. Tired of him selecting underperforming players. Good subs though, was happy to see them both come on. Re: Euro Championships 2016
Probably do be enough to go through already but agree they can't think like that

Re: Euro Championships 2016
I think Rooney is getting better and better at his new role and has the edge on Wilshire because he is more of a threat in the forward positionthrowawayboltonian wrote:I like Kane, he's looked good in the friendly and qualifiers but I'd consider dropping him for Vardy off of his last two performances, but I still maintain that the latter looks far better as an impact sub. Yeah I'd largely agree with starting the team that finished, but I'd consider swapping Rooney out for Wilshere, who seems to be better in the deep midfield role, and possibly Alli for Barkley. Rooney has been largely adequate overall but ineffective going forward, and Alli (like Sterling) just seems to lose possession too easily despite a good start to his England career.BWFC_Insane wrote:Team has to be the one that finished apart from Lalana for Rashford. Edit: And I'd consider starting Forster over Hart. Although that may be a little controversial!
Rooney for me anytime.
Re: Euro Championships 2016
even though i said I'd leave rooney behind - I don't think he's done owt to warrant getting dropped - I think he's done his job well distributing that ball, changing direction of play etc...
nowt against subbing him off after 60mins or so... we might have done that today instead of Rashford - but I thought rashford looked OK too...
well done england - well done Roy - feck off wales

Re: Euro Championships 2016
It's a tournament and we need more than one player for each position. Play Kane, Vardy, Sturridge, Rashford, Wilshire, Barclay all as needed and we have to allow for injuries.. Walker is solid and Rose has definitely improved. Cahill needs to get back and stay back after corners and I'd possibly consider Stones over Smalling who is a bit iffy on fouls. The rest we're as strong as we've been and for me Rooney is essential in that midfield role.

It shouldn't be on the basis of whether he's warranted getting dropped, it's whether he should be in there in the first place.thebish wrote:even though i said I'd leave rooney behind - I don't think he's done owt to warrant getting dropped - I think he's done his job well distributing that ball, changing direction of play etc...

He lost possession today a number of times - which when you're playing behind a front man @ a proper "10" might not be critical, it's more important when you're sat in front of the back 4.
He also gave away the foul that led to Bale getting the free-kick from which they scored..passed balls straight out of play as he did last game, in plenty of space and with plenty of room and the game gets a lot slower (when we don't want it to).
He's a good player, could still win us a game etc. Paul Scholes is ain't - and not in that position for me, and not for England. I hope United put him in that position next season - that's how poor I think he is at playing there...

Re: Euro Championships 2016
I thought Rooney had a good second half. I get what Worthy means but Wilshere has barely played a game. Probably stick with that as it is.
When I say 'Vardy won the league' I mean it is the form of his life. He has momentum and things seem to go for him. Kane has been the poor and I think overawed by it. He also looks tired. I'd agree normally that with Kane at his best Vardy is ideal off the bench but the energy he and Sturridge gave us changed the game.
Agree with Walker as man of the match but he has to stop cutting back when there is a chance to put the ball in the box.
In general England need to stop worrying about keeping the ball all the time. We need to have periods where we play quickly because we look at our best then. It's about balancing it out. Periods of possession and periods of going for the jugular and getting the ball in quickly.
I'm not sure that Alli is quite ready for this either so another option would be moving Rooney in there and putting another midfield player alongside Dier. Against a really top side we probably will have to do that.

Re: Euro Championships 2016
Realistically we'll play better teams than either Russia or Wales if we go on. We've certainly held our own and mainly dominated the play, but the likes of that miss by Sterling need mending and "goals that count" is the only game in town. The relief of Sturridge's goal was tangible we were all over the Welsh just like the Russians. Nice to see the school kids got to watch the game (maybe ony in part) as I met some from Mount St Joseph's whilst dog walking.

Ref's brought the players off in the Northern Ireland game for a hailstorm. Hailstones like golf balls..

aye - well - as I said, I'd have left him behind - but he's performed better than i expected. I won't cry if wilshere replaces him - I just don't think he's our biggest problem. in fact - all told - I reckon we made a decent fist of it today!Worthy4England wrote:It shouldn't be on the basis of whether he's warranted getting dropped, it's whether he should be in there in the first place.thebish wrote:even though i said I'd leave rooney behind - I don't think he's done owt to warrant getting dropped - I think he's done his job well distributing that ball, changing direction of play etc...

I shudder to think how many blind alleys Wilshire would have run up today, I think Rooney knocked in some decent corners as well.thebish wrote:aye - well - as I said, I'd have left him behind - but he's performed better than i expected. Re: Euro Championships 2016
there's a good 17mins in wilshire before he gets injured again... might as well use those minutes wisely...
Re: Euro Championships 2016
The problem Wilshere has is the walk the ball into the net Arsenal mentality when anywhere near the box.throwawayboltonian wrote:Guarantee it would have been fewer than both Sterling and Alli. They've both been really poor recently, Alli especially despite a good few first appearances.Hoboh wrote: I shudder to think how many blind alleys Wilshire would have run up today, I think Rooney knocked in some decent corners as well.
He is not a bad player but Rooney offers more, good corners, some decent free kicks and better wide distribution, although he has his lapses he still should be on the team sheet before Jack.
Sturridge or Sterling? absolutely no contest, Sturridge doesn't get pushed of the ball by a defenders fart and he ain't afraid of having a go.

May I say, in all seriousness, as an Englishman living in a very 'English' part of Wales and so knowing the whole range of affiliations and the delicate social balance involved in all this and has watched with interest the build up of the Welsh public and the rather bravado attitude of the Welsh media and, indeed, the Welsh team .........

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

A very reasoned post if I may say so.
