The Big Shiny World Cup thread

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Anyhow - they've just committed a crime, much larger than anything related LBGTQ+ and workers rights. Fcking Chesney Hawkes is doing the "half time" entertainment. That should be going straight to the Court of Human Rights...
Could be worse, could be Barry Manilow.. :wink:

On the Southgate thing, I doubt there would have been any unbroken crockery or peace in that England dressingroom at half time against the USA by any successful manager who wanted to win. Permanently Nice don't cut it at the top.

If my calculations are correct, Wales need to beat us by 3 goals tonight to be able to go through at our expense...

Our goal difference in that first match has done us really good.

As per wikipedia...
The ranking of teams in the group stage is determined as follows:
Points obtained in all group matches:
Win: 3 points;
Draw: 1 point;
Loss: 0 points;
Goal difference in all group matches;
Number of goals scored in all group matches;
Points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
Goal difference in the matches played between the teams in question;
Number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;

4 isn't it? We're 6 ahead so if they won by 3 we'd go through on goals scored.

Ah you are right. Even a 3-0 defeat and we're through. Lose by 4 and we're out.

What a cunning free kick that was! 5 minutes set up...

Why does Southgate manage to pick such static sides? Foden out of position and we look better in midfield in terms of presence but just very static going forwards. Not enough movement.

Nico williams just got shorter with that header. Shame but probably right call.

Henderson has been terrible so far from what I've seen.

Still were better than against the usa

Playing Henderson is helping the midfield look more balanced but he’s dreadful yep. So is Rashford. Utterly woeful on the ball.

Can definitely see the intention obviously, but he's not one for the future and he's not solving problems now. Surely we'd be better suited looking to the future for the likes of Maddison.

Utds trio, Shaw, Rashford and Maguire have been bloody awful. Kane looks like he's running through treacle. We looked decent against Iran. Tonight we look light years away, individually and collectively, from the likes of France, Portugal, Spain

I reckon those were his instructions v a block that hasn't ventured much outside the 18 yard box. "Head out there, conserve energy and don't run into space much"

Funny how playing better players in their best positions can help….great free kick from Rashford who has been awful to that point.

Jermaine Jenas singing Hendersons praises. If anyone can relate to being taken to a world cup undeservedly then Jenas certainly can. Talking about how his vocal presence helps, surely he can do that from the sideline.

Lovely second goal from Rashford

He was woeful first half. Playing him and Foden in their right positions second half has obviously helped.

I'm struggling to think of any other player whose game is so utterly confidence dependant. He's either absolute shite or playing like he thinks he's Muller.

We could score 3 own goals here from one player and become Wales' all time world cup top scorer
