Sky Sports: Bolton agree fee with Newcastle for Nolan

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of selling Nolan, the timing has left A LOT to be desired. Having said that, I can't remember the last time he played consistently well and selling him in January is likely to mean that we're going to get more money for him than we would do in June. However, Nolan seems to be a barometer for the morale of the dressing room and I get the feeling that this is only going to reduce the morale further, unless Megson has a trick up his sleeve.

I'm sure the manager/board are only going to sell him as long as we have a replacement of sufficient/better quality coming in (presumably Veloso). Otherwise, it's suicide.

I really do hope this doesn't impact on the dressing room. Every gathering has a central character, leader, orchestrater, even comedien. Nolan seemed to be that to Bolton. Sometimes, when a much liked member of your fraternity suddenly is no longer there, the light goes out. Hope this isn't the case here and we don't live to regret it.

You know thats the case, we all know thats the case, its just the short sighted fans that can't. I don't want to see the Club Captiain leave at such an important moment in the season, even if Veleso is in the Wings he isn't going to replace the void that will be left when Nolan leaves.

'Boooo! Gerroff Nolan you fat bastard! Booo! You're fecking shit Nolan! Boo! You fat Scouse bastard Boooo!' Who are you going to shout at now? AOB?

I'm gutted he's leaving. Despite the shite (see above) that's heaped on him by divs Kevin Nolan is the focal point of BWFC. He is Bolton through and through and when he doesn't play we miss him.

I hope this falls through and Kevin remains a Wanderer for many years to come.

If he does go I wish him all the very best and hope he plays well for NUFC. I still hope they go down though.

He can come back then.

Every day I become more and more convinced that Megson's some kind of secret WAFC agent whose mission it is to destroy our club from within.
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Hopefully Nolan will stay. A goalscoring midfielder who can get about 7 goals a season is worth way more than £4.5m, especially considering how much we paid for Fabrice Muamba. Disgraceful business doing it on 30th even with a player of Veloso's quality coming to the club.

We narrowly avoided relegation after selling Nicolas Anelka and not bringing in a replacement, lets not repeat it by selling Nolan and not bringing in a replacement.

I know I nearly crapped myself when I came into work today. As you can see it looks very likely that Nolan is going to sign up with Newcastle for reports up to 4.5m. Came straight out of left field. Very mixed responses, with some saying good riddance, and some wanting to hang Megson. Strangely enough I'm sure some that want to hang Megson, probably hate Nolan, but that's the realityl of being a Bolton fan these days.

never fear - there's always someone for the fans to shout at.....

as i sat watching Bolton play Arsenal the other week - one of the things I was NOT saying to myself was "If only Nolly wasn't suspended - that would make the difference here.."

I understand the sentiment - he's been at the club a long time - he's a likeable lad etc....

BUT are people SERIOUSLY suggesting that we should keep him simply for his dressing room cameraderie???

I would not have questioned his grip on dressing room morale a year or so ago - but watching the team lately - can we really say hand-on-heart that the club captain has got the players around him all gee-d up and united-in-arms?? several weak and surrenderful performances tis season - when Nolan has been playing - and has looked disinterested - have made me begin to question that.

maybe the opposite is true - maybe Nolan is part of what is holding the club back......

Didn't he used to play for Everton? Hope he's not Nolan's replacement !

I understand what you're saying and yes Nolan does have bad games but doesn't everyone? fecking hell he's not got the monopoly on playing shite has he?

He's expected to be Superman by some fans. Megson may go out today and buy somebody else with no vowels in his name but when push comes to shoving someone I'd rather have 11 Kevin Nolans on the pitch than 11 Muambas, Elmanders or McCanns.

Selling our club captain? The day before the most important game in this clubs history?

Well done Gary.

Gotta be careful it's a guaranteed starter should be a midfielder but wouldn't make it Taylor cause of Gardner.

I think Nolan's heart hasn't been in it. I remember when he got 11 goals one year now he doesn't look as fit and if your captain is moping around it's catching. We should have got $5m plus for him though. Hope we get N'Zogbia not Butt in exchange. May need to scrabble about for a replacement. Gelson?
Wouldn't want a guy who refuses to play for his club because the boss got his name wrong.
Didn't get it wrong - used it to insult him. Slightly different, no?
No he didn't. I've seen the interview, clearly it was a spoonerism and totally unintentional.

You wonder if thats the case, some wonder if thats the case, its just the more thinking fans see the bigger picture of how little he brings to the pitch. I don't want to see the Club Captiain leave at such an important moment in the season, even if Veleso is in the Wings he isn't going to replace the void that will be left when Nolan leaves.
FYP. As has been said by many in this thread, his footballing assets are way below what is required for a EPL player, and he has been gaining a guaranteed spot on the back of his capataincy. I wouldn't be surprised to see many of the players glad to see the back of him, as it must get demoralising seeing someone less talented become undroppable. Being shouted at and ordered around by someone who is well off his game, can;t exactly do much for motivation either.

I think Megson is well aware of all of this, and while publicly praising his captain, and being aware of the role he had in getting rid of his predecessor (for which he deserves great praise), Megson has clealry seen a need to ship out. I am a huge fan of this move, very strong management from Megson.

Personally I'd rather ship out Kevin Davies and move for Saviola whilst his name's being bandied around the likes of Portsmouth and Wigan, but that's another story.

Mixed feelings on Nolan. Sad our Captain and loyal servant is going but the fact is he's been here too long and needs a new challenge. Newcastle certainly is a challenge for anyone... but the real, real concern is who, if anyone, replaces him. I'd hope it's to fund Veloso but I'm not holding my breath.

My brother is suicidal about this, he says the club is building for the Championship!!!

Do you even watch Bolton? He can;t tackle, can't beat a man, usually can;t pass, doesn;t score anymore, and gets booked for fun. he has barely had a good game in threee seasons - that isn't a "bad game" - that is a long standing level of poor performance that no-one in the side has come close to matching.

This makes some sense. Nolan's attitude on the pitch is unacceptable from any player, especially the captain. When something doesn't go his way, he doesn't up his game, he just gets himself booked. Is this what we want our team - especially the young guys - emulating?

Also, does it really help morale to have a player who can never be dropped, no matter how dire his form? What message does that send?

I'm gutted he's going. For me, him, Jussi and Gardner are Bolton. Losing him is losing a bit of our identity. Teams need a core of players who have been at the club for years - something City lack and Nolan has enjoyed the good times with Bolton. We'll be left with a core of players who know nothing other than relegation battles.

Anyways, as it could be the last time for a fat bastard comment, here goes. You say he's having a medical at Newcastle. Do you think being clinically obese may hinder his chances? Although they did sogn Viduka...................

Nolan is one of those players that splits the fans in two I'll admit. I like him, others don't. Some want him to leave, I don't . Some girls need a lotta lovin and hold on what was I on about?

No I nver watch Bolton. I've never even heard of them.
