Had they played for 'fashionable' clubs then Davies & Nolan would have got a few games. Look at some of the shite who've been given a couple of caps.
The other was Alan Thompson. No, he wasn't God's gift, but he was bloody good & consistent and left-footed at a time when we seemed to have none in the England camp. Does anyone seriously think thatMcAteer & Stubbs in their pomp would not have been given some opportunity if they played for Wet Spam, Spurs, Liverpool ?
But this is hardly new. Going right back to the '70's, Frankie W had caps prior to joining us ... then got the European Golden Boot for being top scorer in the whole continenent. Did he get a call up ? Did he feck (would have ruined W4E's name if he had). Only a couple behind him was Neil Whatmore. OK, no Alan Shearer, but scored goals for fun ... he didn't even get talked about.
Paul Jones, like Cahill to date, called into squads, but not played.
Peter Reid was superb ... went on to be PFA player of the year. Prior to his injury's with us ... was he picked, even talked seriously about ? Was he buggery.
So, it's hardly a modern chip we have on this shoulder.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

he was being roundly booed and abused last season - he got quite a good reception yesterday...seanworth wrote:Pretty safe bet that will never happen.Lord Kangana wrote:I'd put my money on someone like Dyer (by name and nature) getting a game if he can string more than half a dozen appearances together at Spam. What gives?
Sven took Theo (just been signed by a big North London club) to WC 2006, and he hadn't even played a Premier league game, I think.Worthy4England wrote:Sorry didn't mention Cahill, because I think he may get a game eventually.
SKD could've got a game. Maybe.
If we didn't have a chip on our shoulder, we'd be Wigan fans......
Troll and proud of it.

here's a timely article then... ESPN sport (tho is quoted in lots of places)
Bolton striker Kevin Davies admits that he has given up hope of receiving an England call-up and joked that he has more chance of playing for Jamaica than being selected by Fabio Capello.
Kevin Davies has three England Under-21 caps under his belt but a full cap does not look forthcoming
Davies, 33, has been linked with a call-up periodically having been one of the Premier League's most effective forwards over the past few years.
But the physically imposing stiker has failed to attract the attention of current Three Lions boss Capello, who has picked Peter Crouch, Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole and, most recently, Bobby Zamora as target men.
And now Davies believes he has missed his chance of playing international football, with Capello now openly concentrating on selecting younger players.
"My half brother is Jamaican, so I might try for them - I have more chance of getting into that squad than the England squad,'' Davies joked.
"England is not going to happen for me. Last season I was in a couple of the longer squads so you think that you have a chance.
"But even when there were 10-12 strikers out injured I did not even get a call up. It looks like he (Capello) is going to pick young kids now.
"I don't think that it is ever going to happen. I am disappointed not to get any caps but that is life.''
But Davies is determined to continue performing at the highest level for his club side, and revealed he is optimistic about Bolton's chances of improving under Owen Coyle.
"I am enjoy the football for Bolton and that is the most foremost thing in my mind,'' Davies said. "We have had two or three seasons where we have done well just to stay up.
"Now we feel that we have everything in place. If we get the confidence up, we can try to turn over the big boys which we have not done in a few years.''

A multi millionaire of reasonable talent who's not managed to attain an England cap is a shame for him ... hardly heartbreaking HP.
