The Big Shiny World Cup thread

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Well that *is* a pen. At least they're funny with this one.

Uruguay out, South Korea beat Portugal and go through. I'm betting a certain oriental gentleman will be cheering somewhere...Amazing stuff. :D

I thought that, what a lovely way to end your world cup for a side that wasn't going to win it. Beat Brazil and celebrated in style.

And so the cousins exit and take the Last train back to San Fernando, beaten 3-1 by the Nederlands. Argentina v the Oz in the sudden death stakes tonight.

Got an odd twinge of worry about this one. Up to now pace has been a big factor in all the games and we're not exactly Usain Bolt with a football. Half of me says "come on you Whites" (are we playing in white?) and the other half "park the bus". Bit defeatist that I know, but that niggle of worry won't go away...

No reason not to have niggles in knockout stages, they're through on merit.

I'm not sure we've got the right people for a "bus parking." We need to defend well, front to back as with any game..

I hate these games. You're expected to win but at this stage whoever you play has something about them. And they have won 3 big penalty shootouts in the last year.

If Mane had been fit, I'd be even more worried, but we should have enough.

Seen just how fast these Senegalese feck* can run whenever the Guardia turn up in Peurto Banus 😁

Should be interesting but I like to think we're the better chess players, which, I reckon, should see us through.

Going to take a very good side to beat France. The World champs are playing like...well,
er, world champs. Fast.strong and skilful in all areas and they have MBappe.

Now if the Poles hadn't been so clumsy in front of goal and a little less sloppy with some of their passing it would have been quite interesting.

Sterling unavailable. You know he’d have played if he were.

Tough game I think tonight. And if we win then it’s the toughest up next. Can’t in all honesty see us making the semis whatever happens.

Hang him on something that can't be proven! One game at a time, for me. Doubt anyone walking out of the tunnel will be giving any possible next game any thought whatsoever.

If you think Argentinas was a penalty then Pickford getting none of the ball but all of the man there also has to be a penalty.

Bellingham's been pretty good. Nice strike from Harry.

Bellingham has been superb on the counter press. A Bellingham type is exactly what Bolton need I think it would transform us.
