50 goals is a fine achievement but lets put all this 'greatest' talk to bed. And I don't even like Bobby Charlton!

Re: Tonight's Football
Well I'm happy he's got his 50 goals.
That dusty old manc's 49 goal record has stood for over 100 years and frankly it's embarrassing that our country has taken so long to produce a player capable of surpassing it.
Well done Wayne. You dirty red twt.

Re: Tonight's Football
I'll be more impressed when he beats Lineker's goals record in World Cup finals (10). Only another 9 to go eh Wayne? (and Own Goals which he's just got one more than, is still ahead of him in World Cup Finals for England)
Re: Tonight's Football
He's pretty f*cking good though, tbf.

Really ? In 'World Class' terms ?Prufrock wrote:He's pretty f*cking good though, tbf.
I feel he's all too often a 'not -quite'.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Tonight's Football
Agreed. It is hard to define what world class means but Rooney never shines out to me like other players can. He's scored a lot of international goals against bobbins teams but what about in tournaments when the pressure is on?bobo the clown wrote:Really ? I think he's not at the very highest level. Certainly not comparable to Ronaldo and Messi etc.
Re: Tonight's Football
I never used the words "World-Class" - no two people seem to have the same idea of what that means.
He's frustrating because he's never lived up to what it looked like he might be when he first broke onto the scene, but he's been England's best player in my lifetime, and for all their failures as a team there've been some good ones in that time.
And "not comparable to Ronaldo and Messi etc..." who exactly do you mean by "etc..."?! They're both in the top 10 ever. Is Rooney that good? No, but as I say, he's pretty f*cking good! Too many Wayne Rooneys isn't why we haven't won owt!

Re: Tonight's Football
OK, in my view he's 'pretty good' but not breath-taking.
Inconsistent, surly and has too many long periods of performance drought. He has far too many anonymous games to be of real top-drawer calibre. To this day no-one is sure what his best position is.
Of course I'd have him if he suddenly declared his abiding love for Bolton Wanderers but I've seen many for better and more reliable.

Re: Tonight's Football
Rooney may get a new lease of life with Harry Kane playing up front. With Sturridge and Wellbeck both out of it he needed somebody who is a genuine striker (read finisher) to play alongside. Football's gone really physical again with plenty rough stuff (read blatant fouling against the rules) going unchecked by referees. Even last night we were muscled off the ball all too often first half by the Swiss. Second looked more like, "if you can't beat em, join em" and was a wrestling match at times. The divide amongst recognised "good sides" and the rest isn't as wide now, mainly I'd suspect, due to this, but I just hope it doesn't play into the hands of the divers and cheats. (I make no mention of any teams in particular but a distict aroma of ice-cream, cheese and paella is in the air). I'd love to know what standards international referees are operating by right now.

Nice to see Jose almost self combusting on TV Earlier! Don't you know his team are not getting 'the decisions, the little breaks'. Welcome to the bottom six Jose..

Re: Tonight's Football
It's getting to that length of time he has in a job where he starts falling out with everyone and fecks off.
Re: Tonight's Football
Just watching Fulham vs Blackburn. Ream playing CB alongside Stearman who he met on Friday! Fulham scored early on and Blackburn look vulnerable. Confident we will finish above them.

Fulham's back four is dreadful. Their attack very good.LeverEnd wrote:Blackburn right back in and Lonergan having a blinder.
Definitely glad we got shut of Ream.

That league table isn't looking good for the dingles.
Re: Tonight's Football
I quite liked him but he looked lost today. He was outshone by Stearman in the shiteness dept. Like Bobo says, the deal looks better every game we see the new lads.BWFC_Insane wrote:Fulham's back four is dreadful. Blackburn's defending for the 2nd goal was atrocious as well. They may well go down if they can't win a game like that, unlucky with the goal that was cleared from behind the line mind.

Watched Leicester Villa. That Mahrez boy is a bit special.
